Assuming you work 40 hours per week, and get paid for holidays, then the answer is $16.34. However, if you are a salaried worker, then your hourly wage could vary widely. For instance, if you are a restaurant manager, then chances are you work closer to 60 hours per week and so your hourly rate just dropped dramatically. Some scenario closer to this is likely the case, as most employers choose to offer employees salaried postitions because they will not have to pay overtime. In fact, when you are salaried your hourly rate drops the more you work. The irony of this is that many workers are attracted to salaried positions due to the perceived status and security they bring. The reality is quite the opposit.

Multiply by 2080, which is equal to 40 hours a week X 52 weeks.

But what's the deal with multiple decimal points in the number?

Well, there are approximately 261 work-days in a year (not counting country-specific holidays, which you are effectively being paid for any way). This is 365 days in a year subtracting the 52 weekends. (You should count paid vacations and Statutory Holidays in the "hours worked" calculation as you are, effectively, being paid for them too.)
The answer to your question depends on this number of work-days and the number of hours you work per day.
For example, at 7 hours per day of paid work, you earn:
261 x 7 = 1827 hours of work per year
Therefore: $33,990 / 1827 = $18.60 per hour.

Or, if you worked 8 hours per day, you earn:
261 x 8 = 2088
Therefore: $33,990/2088 = $16.28 per hour.

Of course, if you work unpaid overtime (that is, if $33,990 is your firm salary, regardless of hours worked), then those hours should be factored into your calulation. If you are paid overtime at a premium (say, "time-and-a-half"), this should almost be factored into your calculation (but such calculations are not as quick and nice as "estimated hours worked per year divided by arranged salary")

Cheers.

you need to know first, how many hours you work per year

salary divided by number of hours = pay per hour

you can work out the number of hours you work if you know your weekly or daily hours by multiply by number of weeks you work (probably 50)

Actually ... you would DIVIDE your income by 2080 (not multiply).

Then you would have your hourly rate ...
