My fireplace has gone beyond the point of cleaning it to make it look nice and I would like to paint the inside. Is there a specific type of paint I should use and where can I purchase it?

if the fireplace is used, you cannot paint it. i wouldn't recommend ever painting the inside of a fireplace, even if it isn't used. it just doesn't look good. you could purchase a nice gate or fence to put in front of the fireplace or put plants in it or have a gas heater installed in it.
or, you could replace the firebricks properly.

I don't recommend painting brick inside a fireplace. It's like painting a deck. Once you do it once, you have to do it FOREVER. It's a fireplace, it's supposed to look burnt.

The only paint you can use is one that can take tremendous amount of heat like the kind of paint you use on automobile engines.
