I'm 17 and going to uni in september too! i want to take a gap year now instead, california does sound cool, but it is a long way. i know how u feel, but i found out that half of uni students drop out after the first year for whatever reason :) i have a freind the same age and she wants to go to america too but we still have lots of time. remember u have 2 tell ur parents and stuff like that, yeah flights are expensive, but u could get a job and save if u want :) My freind who is a year ahead of us did camp america in the summer, they are really hard to get into and she had to keep going to interviews and u have to be good with kids, i dont know anything about kids but if u want to do that u have to apply soon www.campamerica.com u could go to uni in california, lots of people go abroad, good luck.

It all depends on where in CA you go. LA and San Francisco are some of the most expensive places in the entire country in terms of cost of living. You can go to a Cal State University for relatively cheap (about $3000 per year in fees, not including books, parking or room and board)
California isn't all that it's cracked up to be. It can be a fun place, but no matter what you expect it is going to be like, you'll be wrong. CA just manages to defy preconceptions, whether they are positive or negative.

You should spend a semester or two in Cali. I go to UC Berkeley and we have lots of European students spending a semester or year abroad in California. Look into study abroad programs; they are a LOT cheaper then coming here on vacation plus you can actually take some classes. I had a friend from London that was here all last year and he was able to see almost everywhere in CA because he would just stay at friends' parents' houses instead of renting hotels. It worked out great for him.

I went off to school out of state (California to Colorado) when I was 17 and never regretted it. If you are going to a new country though I would wait until you are 18 because the few months before I turned 18 I had a few problems with legally signing my name to healthcare forms and school documents (in the states your signature is not legal until you are 18 and if your parents are in another country it might make it even harder).

Going to California is a nice dream. But first you should finish school and get on your feet financially.

you're not doomed, but i'd suggest brushing up on your spelling and/or typing skills. if coming out here is really that important to you, then you'd get a job and save up money.
