supports 4 roof are broken?

need some advise on how to fix broken 2/4 supports for roof in my attic holding up my roof and what might had caused it.?

If the roof hasn't fallen down you can add 2x4s to either side. If it has fallen just raise it back up with a brace and tack the two 2x4s to the sides. I would make the 2x4s as long as you can and nail them about every two to four inches. As for the cause, it could be anything. Weak boards, something heavy fell on the roof.
