I hope so. As an American and a football fan, I would love to see a greater following andmore exposure here in the US.

I must admit though... I didn't believe it when I heard it. It was on CNN, it's not as though I read it on the cover of a tabloid. I had to check for myself. I cannot believe Beckham is coming here.

As for the comments made regarding his wife.. She'll be no different than Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, etc. We are used to publicity seekers here. Those of us who have no use for them have learned to ignore them.

I'm expecting the USA to go Beckhamania mad!!
It's going to be like the king and queen and the pope
visiting at the same time. It could mean a huge rise in
attendances and an unsurprising rise in pirates dishing
out phoney merchandise. u know, all the usual razzmatazz that goes with a world famous celeb.

It's going to be fab for u!!!!

If the opportunity is seized properly, it could be great for the national team.
let's face it, u have in depth, some of the best sportsmen er... and women on the planet so if any of those are channelled into soccer it can only benefit.

er $50mill I suspect the merchandise and sponsorship might cover that in the first six months!!!

Im from Chicago but I've spent every summer in the UK so Ive watches soccer my whole life. I know who David Beckham is and ive seen his highlight reels so I will watch a few games. As for Americans watching him, i doubt it. We have so many sports over here it will be impossible to keep track of another one. Nobody knows who he is or what he's done. "Bend it like Beckham" might be the only way people know the name. I am all about US soccer becoming bigger but I just don't see how it will happen in my lifetime. Although, I have to say that everyone I knew watched the US in the world cup, however disappointing it was, it still showed that Americans are willing to support the sport its just that we've had nothing interesting to watch over here.

Doubt it will to be honest.

It didn't when George Best played in the USA so why should it be any different with David Beckham?

May I just add that it is totally ridiculous the amount of money involved for him moving to a team playing in a country where it isn't even in the top 2 most popular sports.

Answer coming from the UK.

I'm on this side of the pond ;-) UK. To be honest I can’t see Beckham making a blind bit of difference in the long term. Don't forget the US has, in the past, had far better players than him go there, Pele, Best, etc, etc. If they can’t raise the level of interest what chance has Beckham got?
And the money incidentally is beyond madness. Sorry.

As A David B enthusiast im not gonna say many undesirable issues bout him yet i will say that hecame right here a million. because of the money. l. a. Galaxy changed into going to grant him better money than Landon Donavon (l. a. Galaxy captain.) David beckham is loved right here so obviously he changed into prepared to come back. 2. l. a. Galaxy and MLS mandatory better company so as that they presented a nicely customary participant to come back to the states so there might want to b better human beings. basically the day david signed to l. a. Galaxy better than 4 million jerseys were bought. So significant reason money

yes the basic reason for bringin Beckam to US is to take football to a higher level. The present situation required someone like Beckham to stiumulate the interest in football, moreover, to cultivate and polish the talent.

So, as of now, he is everywhere on the media, and this thing is unknowingly diverting the attention of millions towards football.

Hope for the best.

I live in L.A., and didn't really care much for soccer. I've only watched maybe 2 Galaxy games on tv. Now that Beckham is joining the Galaxy, I will definitely watch more games, perhaps even watch the team in person. Go Galaxy!

I think it's good for us in the US and it'll be good for Becks. Kind of like the NY Cosmos signing Pele. Though Becks is no Pele, he still is a great and he still has the kind of quality that will make him a standout here. It will force the other teams to improve their quality, and his celebrity will be good for the sport overall. I think it's a great move by him and by the Galaxy.

It will increase the audience here in the US for the sport. As from where the money is coming from, the league has a lot of money from the 10 years being in business.

Still, GO D.C. United!!
