The sixth Harry Potter book is in paperback and its cheaper than a ream of paper and printer ink/toner and a new pair of glasses from hours of staring at a screen. And the great thing about books is that you can read them ANYWHERE, no electricity required or compatibility or virus worries.

NONE of the Harry Potter books are available electronically. J. K. Rowling has refused to release them that way. If someone is tempting you with a download, it's a pirated copy.

I prefer electronic books because I have a Rocket Reader. It's easy to carry, stores 10-14 books in it, and has larger print than a standard book. It's also backlit so I can read in dark places and under the covers. Would have loved to have had one when I was a kid. No more flashlights.

I know what you mean. I would never read a book off the computer because it would probably hurt your eyes after a while and i wouldnt priont it because that's so much trouble when you could just go to the store and buy it. I'm an avid reader with a large collection, and I think the only reason people get books off the computer is because technology is becoming so farspread and upcoming and they want to modernize it. Personally, though, I think books should stay exactly the way they are, and some things should not be intruded upon by the internet.

Price is probably a factor for some people, if a download is cheaper than buying the book. Also, there's those electronic organizer things... you can download books onto some brands of those, and that way you could take it anywhere, and not have to worry about making room in your bag/jacket pocket to carry a book.

I've downloaded 2 books because when I looked on amazon.com (and other websites where you can buy books, including ebay), the books were out of print & there were none available to buy, but there was the option of downloading them on one of the websites (sorry, I forget which one). I have one of those electronic organizers and I downloaded the books onto it and read the books later.

Although, I do agree with you in that an actual book is better than a download.

I love downloading books as podcasts because we're allowed (encouraged, in fact) to keep on headphones at work. As graphic artists, our work is to stick our heads into mac's and monitors and the boss understands that a lot of creative people are aided by music or other sound input. It works very well for me. I would not enjoy reading a book on-line. I've downloaded a couple and found it very difficult to read. I was glad that they were short (mostly how-to).

I don't think most people that download a book print it off. I have never read a book on line but my local library does offer them . I think some types of software will read the book to you like a regular audio book.

I have a collection of books, they are fun to read. I like the e-books also becuase I do not have to create more physical space in my home or boat to read them. I have a very little boat. I would like a larger boat so I could live on it. I like to sail on boats and Ilke to read.

I completely agree with you. I think people want to download because they're too lazy to go buy the book, or they find downloads cheaper...

well perhaps it is b/c you aren't using paper and consequently saving tree and the environment. It can be put onto ones PDA and you're good to go. Easily able to carry multiple books.

I would guess that many people would like to be able to read them at work or school but still look like they are working hard at thier computer. I will admit there are times that this is tempting to me as well.
