I got my piercing 8 months ago. I have taken great care to rinse with saline, as I was instructed and to keep the area clean and not use any creams on it. I have never snagged it or pulled it. It is still going through periods of oozing pus and crusting over. It became infected twice and I had to take antibiotics. I am wondering if they made it too deep or what, because it just wont heal.

You are probably allergic to surgical steel. Some people are! Try replacing the ring with either a titanium one or a solid gold one. After you've done that, wait a few more months and see what happens. Also, don't OVER-clean it! Sometimes cleaning and too much fiddling will greatly increase healing time as well, so just clean it when it gets crusty or dirty.

This is going to sound odd...but im a piercing fanatic. I clean my vigorously for only about 2 weeks...during the crucial stage. After a while my body just hates the saline solution or antibacterial softsoup (depending on where the piercing is). I stop cleaning it all together...maybe once a week, and let the body naturally clean it. Since the naval isn't around any mucous membranes, i would recommend doing it twice a week.

Also like someone said, youre body could just be rejecting it, and you might be illergic to the metal. You should always get a high quality metal for the first ring/stud/barbell. Just incase. I know surface piercings have a very high chance of rejection.

I know my belly button took a good 6 months/8 months to really heal...just be patient with it and dont over aggrivate it.

The navel is a notoriously long-to-heal piercing. Mine took six months, although it never was infected. And then a few years later took the freaking thing out for a week and it healed up completely (grumble).

In my experience, barbell piercings heal a lot faster than ring-type or fancy navel jewelry. You might want to talk to a reputable certified piercer about getting a different piece of jewelry, or if that doesn't help, abandoning the piercing.

maybe your bodies rejecting the piercing
that happened to my nose ring and after 2 years i took it out hoping that it would get better
check and see if you allergic to the metal or if your navel is pushing it out on its own it could be a sign that you cant have that area pierced at all

good luck
