In today's world, there are CRT (cathode ray tube) and LCD flat panel monitors. I would not consider "color" as a different category, but a type of CRT's.

CRT's can be monochrome or color, even though you rarely see monochrome. You may see these being used at a store or business terminals, but most have upgraded to LCD's.

CRT is bulky and heavy, but produces the most accurate color.

LCD is think and light, but produces a bright, sharp and clean image. More expensive than CRT. Uses less power than CRT's.

You don't see monochrome monitors much anymore. They are black-and-white, green, or amber. The 2 basic types of color monitors in use today are LCD (advantage: flat) and CRT (advantaqge: inexpensive). :=)
