In season 2 I started seeing Buffy waiting at graves and then a vampire would pop out and she would stake it. But how does she know they'll come out? I don't remember them ever saying how she will knows when someone died because of a vampire bite and that they will rise later that night. Can anyone please explain?

I think that it's acceptted vampire lore, culled from countless vampire movies and stories that say that the vampire rises out of the grave on the night s/he is buried. They are reborn to endless existance as one of the undead. If Buffy suspects that someone has been bitten by a vampire, I guess she or one of her scoobies checks the obituaries, maybe even attends the burial, so she knows where the grave is, and then waits for the new vampire to emerge. Giles seemed to know often, and would mention it and sometimes Angel. Just a theory... I find that sometimes you simply have to go along with the convention. Still a great show, loved the escapism.

Well, what she does is she looks at the obituaries, and if she sees that someone betw the ages of 17 and 35 died of mysterious causes, or from "severe blood loss" from a "double puncture wound to the neck," she would know that, statistically, this is not a cohort that dies from such a cause, naturally. So, she would just hang out around that person's grave, and... more often than not, end up killing a newborn vamp.

The only thing i can say is that Buffy Knows because she is awesome, and thats all she needs. Oh, and Giles taught her how to sense Vampires in the first season.

Sometimes Giles figures it out for her, usually because of some prophesy, sometimes she finds out from the news or eavesdropping that someone has been killed and has suspicious neck wounds, and sometimes I think it's just her Slayer sense that tips her off. Plus, there's plenty of times when she's just trolling the graveyard and not waiting in front of any one specific grave.
