I bought infant shoes when my daughter was a few months old (she is now 8 yrs old)and she outgrew them in a month(no lie)..If you do buy shoes for your new baby(congrats, by the way) get a cheap pair. My son is 11 months old and i did not buy shoes for him yet....cuz of what i went through with my daughter and it's also better for them to feel different sensations on their feet. They really do not need them expect for when they start cruising onto furniture or walking.

My boy stared wearing shoes at 2 months and I have a good collection of really cute ones. Here's the trick. It is important for baby to get used to the feel of things on his feet so it is not recomended to have him wear them all the time, but on the other hand, if you don't put babies in shoes before they are old enough to figure out how to take the shoes off you'll have a hard time getting them to wear them later.
My suggestion: Get those over-priced but extremely adorable shoes now. Whenever you go out of the house for the day or you have company over put the shoes on so you can show them off...
Then, after the company sees the cute shoes you can take them off and show the cute feet too...double the pleasure.
When you are home all day, put the shoes on for an hour or two and leave them off the rest of the time (maybe have shoes on for the time frame between two naps).
To make sure the shoes are comfy for baby feet:
-Stick to the softer shoes
-Error on the side of getting the shoes too big (he'll grow into them anyway)
-Try the shoes on in the store to see his reaction if possible. Personally I never buy shoes that are sealed in those plastic packages because I must try them on my baby first to make sure he doesn't fuss
-If baby can't be there or you can't try them on, take a tracing of baby's foot while his weight is on it (standing on the paper). It's a good idea to enlist dad's help to hold baby up while you trace. Then cut out the tracing and use that to insert into any shoes before you buy them. Make sure the paper has room to wiggle back and forth inside the shoe.

Soft soled shoes such as Robeez can be worn at any time.
Don't use any shoe with more of a sole or more structure until he is walking outside and needs a thicker sole to protect his feet from rough ground. The foot develops better when walking bearfoot. Socks or soft soled shoes are okay though since they don't actually provide any support - just warmth.

There's nothing wrong with them wearing shoes to complete an outfit. Choose soft flexible shoes that will allow them to move their feet. Wearing rigid shoes all the time at this age could hurt their bone growth. If you want him to wear them for a little while for a photo or something, that's fine, but stick with soft shoes for day to day wearing. I like Robeez (you can get them at Stride Rite). Once they start walking, that's the time for good, supportive shoes.

I know, the little shoes are SO adorable - I couldn't wait either, and bought my daughter shoes when she was around 3 months. But it's really a waste of money - don't bother until he starts at least crawling, preferably walking.

Cute soft sole are fine for now. When he starts to walk, then he has to have real shoes with a hard sole. Those should be professionally fitted the first time.

As soon as they start crawling. Soon, after crawling comes walking and you would want shoes for added support. That's the way my wife and I were able to gauge shoe wearing age for my daughter, at any rate.

No you should go ahead and put them on.Get your baby used to shoes now so when your baby gets older he will be used to it. I let my son go without shoes(just socks) because i thought they would be uncomfortable and then it took me over a year to get him to actually leave a pair on because he was used to not wearing them. Good luck.
