I call a boycott on their movies. If they hate this country so much, why should we financially support them living away?

Madonna is a first class(less) @sshole that just wants to stay in the limelight cos she's an old has-been. Johnny Depp lives in France. He's "accents" are called "acting". He's not a phoney.

Ummm...I think Johnny Depp speaks with a British accent because of his character in the Pirates movies....even while not filming...he stays in character.
However, people pick up the accents that they're surrounded by...same would happen if someone from California moved to South Carolina (I know...it happened to my sister).

The same reason you start saying y'all and speaking with a twang if you move to TX or anywhere else in the south. You adapt to your surroundings. I lived in TX for less than two years and sound like a damn hick now. It's not by choice...you just get used to hearing it and take on the same patterns of speech.
I thought Johnny Depp lived in Paris or Spain...not London...?

I wouldn't think they do it to sound smarter but if you live in a place for awhile where they have a different accent than you, you will start to develop that accent. Now if there faking it it's probably just to blend in or they fit in better with there English audience.

The pick up the dialect for the same reason as you do in this country. If you travel to certain places and stay for any period of time, you naturally start to talk like the locals. Think of Boston, or The South. People visit Texas and start saying things like Y'All. It's just human nature.

no, when a person spends a good deal of time in an area with thick accents they will eventually take some of the characteristics of the accent in their own speech. It happens to many people that move to Lousianna or Maine.

pretty funny, isn't it? My mom is british, and she's been in the states since the 1950's, and still speaks with a british accent. Thank god for that! I love hearing British accents.

"When in Rome, do as the Romans do", which is apt anywhere.
and, yes, anyone with an English accent sounds and probably is smarter.
