I believe you might be thinking of the shrew. Shrews are smaller than mice and much more active. This is mostly due to their incredibly excessive eating habits. Because shrews have a heart beat similar to that of a hummingbird ( about 800-900 beats/min) their metabolism is incredibly high and therefore they must eat almost continually. This makes their behaviour much faster pace than that of mice who's food requirements are much less.
Shrews are constantly in search of a meal, anything from insects, to seeds, to small mammals, small birds and even reptiles and amphibians.

Here is a picture of a short-tailed shrew. A couple neat facts about shrews are first of all, they are not rodents, even though they resemble them. Shrews have specialized teeth, that actually place them in the order Insectivora instead of Rodentia.

The short tailed shrew (pictured above) is actually venomous, the toxic saliva is a neurotoxin and has been compared to that of some members of the cobra family! pretty cool little critters!
