Personally I think they are more of a cowardly nature. If they were really tough wouldn't they be more likely to take on someone 1 on 1?

Bullies group together. They feel secure picking on someone when the odds are heavily in their favor, such as outnumbering them or being bigger. They are afraid to encounter someone one on one as they might get their asses handed to them on a platter. It also has a lot to do with group mentality in that they will do something in a group that they would not do otherwise.

They just want to make a point and think they are "cooler" because they have back up. So its like dont mess with me becuase my friends are behind me! Dumb I agree!
