My husband and I are celebrating out 5th anniversary in March. He's in Iraq right now, so we'll be spending the day away from each other. My question is......What do I get him for our anniversary? The traditional gift is wood. Anyone have any really awesome "wooden" gift ideas?

first, he didn't ASK to go to Iraq. He doesn't WANT to be there.

the entertainment center is a good idea, but he's there, and that would be here.

The heart idea is cute, but he just did that for me, only his was steel and weighs about 10 pounds.

I would love to plant a tree, but we're stationed in Germany. We don't have a yard at all.

I was broke this year for my husbands b-day so what I did for him was (on a light table) I traced a pic of his favorite tree (oak) on a piece of thin fabric. I traced it with a washable fabric marker in a light colored fabric, then went over it with acrilic paints to make it look real. I didn't do a background or anything just the fabric and on the bottom I wrote: May our love grow ever strong. then my name and the date.
You can take my idea, my husband really liked it. If you have any other ques. about how to do the project feel free to email me, I'd be glad to help the wife of a man servig our country. :)
Good luck and God bless.

i'm gonna take the bait, and hope you are being truthful. if he's in Iraq. the LAST thing he needs is "wood". pardon the double entendre. i think some rare delicacy that's hard to come by- in quantities large enough to pass around to ALL his friends- would be the greatest gift you could give under the circumstances. his sharing would make him a true friend, and your thoughtfulness should be seen by all as a kind thing to do. that may not seem very personal, but i know it would bring tears to me in that situation, that my wife cared about me AND my comrades enough to do something like that!

im gonna have to agree with promomows. I dont think it matters that the gift is supposed to be wood. I'd have to send him something I know he couldn't get over there. If I were over there that would be better to me than wood. Ya Know?

I like the wooden heart idea with your wedding date on it and your names entwined. I'm sorry he cannot be with you. Military life sucks.

Try to find a small wooden heart, carve "I love you" on it. He will always have your heart with him.

Make him a boat so he can sail home and get out of the country he was never meant to be in in the first place.

sorry for my answer...Try wooden promise-rings, it's good to know that somebody waits you home and something to remind you that...
