Each of my children had a special hat to wear home. A friend of my MIL's made one for each of them. It is made out of a white handkerchief and some lace. There is a poem that goes with it about wearing it home from the hospital and later snipping a couple of stitches for the bride to carry on her wedding day.

For my son:
He wore a blue outfit with trains on it. He was named after my Grandfather, who was a huge train collector.
For my middle daughter:
She wore a pink Carters jumper with a white shirt under it that my step-mom and I bought. I think it said "first hug" or something like that one it.
For my youngest:
She was born at home. The outfit we dressed her in after the birth was a little green outfit that my oldest (then 4 years old) picked out. We chose that one to make him feel special and included in her birth.
They all had special afghans that my mom made to wrap them in too.

My husband and I chose not to find out the sex of our baby before birth (we had a girl). Together we shopped and picked out 2 outfits, 1 pink 1 blue, and brought them both. They were little zip up hooded shirts with matching pants and we brought white onzies and socks. The outfit we didn't use we are planning on saving for when/if we have a boy and plan to use the same outfit or find one similar in another color when/if we have another girl.
Whatever you chose he or she will probably be Swimming in it. Just make sure you bring something "picture friendly" )usually avoiding crazy prints) and appropriate for the weather.
Good Luck!

I found the cutest outfits. One for a boy and one for a girl since I didn't know what I was having. They got their hospital pics done the day we were discharged so I didn't have to buy separate outfits.

With my first born I paid dearly for his going home outfit, it was the most expensive one I had of the appropriate size.He peed all over it in the carseat during the car ride and then spit up all over it when we got him in the house. So much for that one!
This time around (currently 36w pregnant) I'm not putting too much effort into it. I have 3 outfits packed in 3 slightly different sizes. One premie one (incase he's small) one 7lb one and one 10lb one. Thats it.

The outfit my baby boy will wear home is the outfit his great-grandmother made him before she died. My husband actually picked the outfit.

My first daughter came home in a Duke cheerleading outfit, courtesy of my husband, and I let her pick out the outfit for my youngest daughter, so she felt like she was doing new cool stuff for her baby sister, it was so sweet.

placed him in a dress. right this is the coolest judgment: you are able to desire to gown him for mattress as a results of fact he will spend maximum of his first few days asleep in any case. And the dress is easiest as a results of fact you do no longer could desire to united statesa. something, you do no longer could desire to take something off of legs, you purely pull the dress up and additionally you have have been given common accessibility to changing the diaper so which you disturb the toddler much less. And it relatively is rapid and does not situation the umbilical twine like a 2 piece could or something with snaps up the front could, or worsen his back (like something with snaps interior the back could). As for the chilly, a blanket and a dress with a onesie on below the dress is purely high-quality for chilly climate.

I used the same outfit for all 3 boys -- bonding them together in a way. The first one didn't have any more meaning but warm and snuggly.
