YES, coral gables sucks huge!!! Everything is overpriced and they have the dumbest city rules and laws. Like a watermelon at store in Coral Gables would be $7.99 while in another area that same store would be 5.99 for the same watermelon, plus people there have some money and they are really rude i worked there and they think they own the world and u have to kiss their *** all day.
Someone's opinion of Miami and very accurate bcuz i live in Miami

What's left to do in this town but shop and go to an overcrowded beach or overpriced boring night club? There's golf courses, sure but too crowded. No affordable bowling alley, no water-slide parks, no mini-golf, no go kart tracks, what do people do there? I was visiting a friend and he was riding the atv around he yard and someone had the nerve to call the police! Nobody goes outside except to wash their car, so what do people do? I know that city people often make fun of small towns, but when visiting a friend in Alabama, Texas or Iowa small towns there's places to go, things to do but in a city like Miami it seems that you have to have a lot of $$$ to do anything. The overcrowded beach has no parking, and it's an ugly, barren beach. Downtown Miami has some parking, and if you're lucky your car will be there when you come back. Everything west of US-1 or I-95 is a wasteland and only homes, condos and shopping. Is there anyplace to go except for shopping malls inland? i would say no and if you don't have money (main interest in Miami) u have to stay at home bored. People here are shallow and value you for you possessions and status not for who you are. Trust me, I'm really trying to get the FFFF out of here.

I am a freshman at UM, and even though I love the city of Miami and all the millions of things to do here, the actual campus is not in the city at all, so it might not be what you're looking for. South Beach is very fun, as is Coconut Grove, but it takes around 25 minutes to get to SoBe, and 10 to the Grove driving... which isn't horrible if you don't mind driving everywhere all the time. However, there is really nothing to do within walking distance of the school. On campus, the most social places to go are the pool during the day, and the library at night (so you can see there's not much stuff happening on campus...). There are fraternity houses on campus, but the University has a strict policy on them having to have all of their parties registered with the school, which makes most parties happen off-campus.
I would still recommend you visit though. It is a beautiful area down here and there are so many things to do every night, you just have to drive for pretty much everything. If you have any more questions about UM, feel free to ask me!

Miami is very happening, but the Gables area can get a little boring, in my opinion. No doubt you'll have some things to do with fellow students, like smaller bars and etc. But if you'd really like to be in a lively place, I recommend South Beach. That's where it's absolutely impossible for anyone to ever get bored, but... managing school while there are 1000 things to do every night can be huh... challenging :) I managed to go to school while partying every night, and maintain a 4.0, don't ask me how! Let's just say sleeping wasn't the highest of my priorities!

human beings, human beings, human beings! As someone who's living from enormous apple city. This human being has no theory has a lot life is more effective useful contained in the 'Sunshine State'. before everything you may've forgotten about the elements? i might want to particularly be below the solar, on the sea coast, and by no ability having to positioned on 2 coats. Time sq. is CRAP. actual New Yorkers stay remote from that position because it truly is in consumer-friendly words finished of vacationer. even as i become in South sea coast i become surprised of ways ideal it really is over there. and particular enormous apple city may be contained in the middle of the international, in spite of the undeniable fact that it truly is no longer some thing outstanding like it truly is potrayed on T.V. in case you shifting right here get waiting to journey the fast life, the chilly, the subway, the undesirable air pollutants, the noise, the rudeness. Make your human being descision, yet there's no way Miami is boring. And in case you don't like Spanish. Then so be it. with the objective to sum it up enormous apple is in consumer-friendly words relaxing and exciting once you've this $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. good success

Coral Gables is beautiful, lots of greenery (trees, hedges) and fairly quiet. But Coral Gables is a small area. There are tons of cool places nearby.
South Beach, Bayside, the Keys, lot's of county fairs and festivals for every occasion.
Go for it. U of M is a great school.
