They won't survive the next Presidential election, that's for sure. If Bush's new plan fails, which all indices point to as almost inevitable, McCain will take a hit for supporting the new troop surge, he has been touting it all along. Romney is a flip-flopper extraordinaire and can't seem to make up his mind if he's a social conservative or liberal. They don't really have anyone to mount a viable campaign against the Democrats. Most of our friends are Republicans and I know for a fact over half of them voted Democratic in the mid-terms. If nothing drastically changes in this Administration they'll have no reason to vote Republican in 08, just as they didn't this November. A lot can happen in two years, but right now the Republicans don't have a chance in Hades of taking the White House in 08. Eventually, that will turn around, years down the road, as it always does in this country. But, for the foreseeable future, the Republicans are finished running this show and they can thank George Bush for that.

Will the Democratic party survive the Pelosi years? I hope so. That's the difference between the bulk of your party and mine. We actually hope the best for our country and will put that ahead of partisanship. For instance, not many of us will defend the likes of Foley, but watch what happens whenever anyone questions Ted Kennedy's behavior. Most of us are willing to admit that Bush has made some blunders, which is why the '06 elections went the way they did. It was a correction coming from the right hand side of the voters, not from the blindly ideological left who will vote against, rather than for, people every time.
Anyway, a strong two party system is healthy for our country, and that was in jeopardy for 12 years, but you guys survived and made a comeback. Congrats, we needed that! Hopefully, the freshmen moderates can influence your party to become more akin to the party of Truman again and Pelosi doesn't squander the surge. The GOP will survive and hopefully we'll find another Reagan one of the days - which McCain is not. He's a little closer to Clinton in his leadership style I'm afraid. I guess we'll see, won't we?

Hmmmm..so more and more republicans are stating they will never vote republican again...as long as they live! WOW! That's a very long time!! Where did you get that from?? Talking to actual republicans???? A poll???? Another poll that I missed being a part of....darn, maybe someday I, or at least SOMEBODY I know will be polled.
I am republican and I will vote for the candidate whose concerns and values most closely match my own. Republican? Most likely. Credibility? Gore and Kerry were the best you could do?
Survive AND THRIVE!!!!

As a former Republican, I doubt they will. They created a massive government the last ten years with Socialist policies that were never be unwound. They put the nail in back of the free market with all their regulations and support for entitlements. Evenutally the economy and tax receipts for their massive govt will slow; the Chinese won't loan us $ we need to pay for their Monster govt, so they will begin recklessly printing money and the economy will collapse, maybe a depression like we have never seen, thanks to Republicans

Where does it say "more and more americans are simply stating that they will never vote republican ever again as long as they live?"
How did the democrats survive the clinton years?
Clinton:
-Sold pardons for money
-committed adultery
-committed perjury to a federal grand jury
-stole furniture from the white house when he left
-was disbarred as a lawyer
Please read a book and learn to think for yourself.

Of course. Both parties have their setbacks & rebounded. In historical terms, The Republican loss in the 06 elections is not unusual. Don't get your hopes up.

I don't think it will be a problem. One, you aren't hearing those who will be voting Republican, like me and two, the Dems will continue to make mistakes like nominating Kerry.
