I gave my baby corn syrup when he was that little to help with the BM. I just mix about a tablespoon in with a couple ounces of water. It helped him and din't have any negative effects. He's older now and still has trouble so I had to get Miralax from the doctor. I don't know if they give that to babies as small as yours. Try the corn syrup and see if it works for you. Good luck!

Water or glycerin suppositories are the treatment of choice in small babies. Also you should be aware that ANY oral treatment has the possibility to cause diarhea which is far more serious than constipation. Glycerin suppositories can not cause dehydrating diarhea as they only act on the poo once the infant has removed the water. Personally I only use an infant dose so you can consider only giving a part of an infant dose. (Too much can cause mild cramping until the stool is passed)

Unfortunately constipation is a side effect of formula feeding. If it is a constant problem consider having your baby's iron level checked. If the iron levels are high enough you can likely switch to a lower iron formula. Though the iron levels will need to be monitored more closely.

Straining also doesn't necessarily mean constipation, constipation in children under a year refers to consistancy only. Not frequency and not straining. Straining can be caused by many things. Some babies just like to see what different muscles do.

"Many doctors still recommend the corn syrup for constipation, but this is a practice we would like to see stopped. The reason is, in recent years, studies have shown that corn syrup *can* harbor botulism spores, which are a deadly toxin produced by bacteria. While adult immune systems may be able to handle the minute amounts that could be present, a baby would be at a very increased risk.

When I worked in the WIC, a lot of moms said "the doctor told me to" or "my mom did it, and I never got sick" or something to that effect. I think many doctors are not aware of the risk, as the research is fairly recent. Furthermore, there is only a *chance* that the spores are present, they are not *always* in the corn syrup. That is why many moms and their moms have tried this without any harm, but I think it's a chance that is not worth taking with your baby's health.

Depending on the baby's age, a few things can safely be done for constipation:

younger babies can have a few extra ounces of warm water (no more than 2 oz of water 1-2 times per day), the warm temp seems to "get things going"

babies over 4-6 months can have a few ounces of warm apple juice (make sure it is the pasteurized kind) "

"On a final note, light or dark corn syrup is often used to help babies with constipation. The American Academy of Pediatrics warns that due to the potential theoretical risk of botulinum contamination babies should also not be given corn syrup that has not been pasteurized(sterilized) or declared "botulism spore free". A baby should never be given any type of corn syrup. If your baby is constipated try giving her some baby prune juice. No more than 4oz's in a 24hr. period. Just a little bit works and doesn't take very long to work it's way threw their body. I've done this with both my kids with great results. If your child's constipation reoccurs be sure to seek medical advice.

Do you have any reason to believe that she is constipated? At her age she should only be getting breastmilk or formula. Be sure she is really constipated. If necessary, have her checked out by her doctor. My baby is 3 months old and breastfed and she goes once every 3 to 4 days. I would advise you not to give her the cornsyrup.

Hope this helps.

That means she is constipated and no its a good thing to give your daughter Corn Syrup my daughter was on it but because she was so badly constipated now she is on Mirilax. But yes try the corn syrup you do 1 teaspoon per 1 oz in her bottle.

You could also buy over the counter supositorys and give her one every 6 hours till the constipation comes to an end.

Contact your daughter doctor and make sure that they know that is really constipated they might want to see her in their office just to make sure that there is nothing else going on.

here is what i swear by for little ones with poopin problems

my sons doctor told me to do this when he was little 8 years ago

if your baby is constipated get there bottom half naked keep the diaper under them and put the thermontemer in their butt (like you would to take their temp) hold it there for a min or so if needed that long my son pooped almost right away.... any way the point is that it will make them poop cause their natural instinct is to push the thermontemer out of there rectum

this work well and you dont have to give your babys any syrups or medience

It's not the best thing to give. It can give him the runs. Not to mention - it's not a quick fix. Try taking his temperature rectally. That's often enough to stimulate him to go. Otherwise, go to the pharmacy and buy glycerine suppositories. They're huge, so just break off a chunk and use it. That should work too. Otherwise, you can give him up to two ounces of prune juice up to twice a day. Start with one ounce mixed with an equal amount of water and give it once a day. If that doesn't do the trick after three days - do it twice a day. If it's not working, up it to the two ounces of prune juice with the water. If that isn't helping - call the doctor!

Babies should only consume formula or breast milk at that age. They usually only go around twice a week so she may not even be constipated. If so, take her temp rectally and she will naturally try to push it out hopefully her bm will be next. I remember my mom did that to my sister when she was a constipated baby.

Your 2 month old only needs formula or breast milk. Introducing other foods like this can cause an allergic reaction (can be fatal) or sever food allergies in the future (also fatal). Call your pediatrician.

I give my son a Karo syrup and water bottle(about 4 ozs.) every other day or so, to help him out so he can stay regular. I have been doing that since he was about 2 months old. so its not bad
