I have a decent paying job, but I just got transfered to a different department. I sit on the internet all day, bored out of my mind. Only once and a while do they have me do anything. I just feel so worthless, like I should be doing something. Should I just stick with this job, I am afraid to quit because I don't think I will be able to find anything that will pay as well and it is hard to apply for jobs because I am working when the HR is usually in the office, so it will be hard for them to contact me. I am just so bored and feel worthless. Please help.

Be proactive. Look for projects that need to be done and volunteer to work on them. Approach your boss and ask for more to do - you earn some serious brownie points for that, btw.

If your approach to work is to only do what you are told to, and only do as much as you are asked to, without showing any initiative, you will find yourself being passed over for promotions, getting lukewarm references and having your career stall pretty quickly.

If I were you I'd stick with it. Why don't you use the extra time to hone up on some skills. The internet is an amazing place. Look for quizes, typing tests, read the online dictionary to widen your vocabulary. Or, maybe find something in your company that you think needs work and do some research on it...maybe someone will notice your work and move you to a department that could use a forward-thinking employee. There is always something to do, use your imagination...and Good Luck.

I think I would stick it out for now. Check with your supervisor to see if you can be trransferred again or ask for something to do. Perhaps someone is really swamped and could use your help.I wouldn't quit until you have another job. Take a paperback book with you to work and read it while you are sitting there. You can only surf the internet so long before it gets boring.

Good luck!

Yes, you should start looking for a new job if you're not happy. Doesn't mean you have to quit the one your at before you find a new one - Do you have a cell phone that you could receive messages at? Other companies understand that you are probably working and can't be on the job looking for work - does that make sense? Best of luck!
