they are not ****** emo....no one knows what emo really is..because you will never find it on MTV or on the radio. BUT I am a HUGE believer in My Chemical Romance, though I can agree on the "overly commercialized" thing, but they are one of the few bands who have stayed true to themselves, despite on being commercialized. as far as panic! at the disco...I'm warming up to them, but at a time they did have certain "uniqueness" but it has since faded away, because of other bands copying their style. but I know this, they are not punk or emo. actually there actual genre is quite often debated within their respective fanbases, since depending on the song you get different genres of music, or a mix of a few genres of music, but it is agreed that both bands are considered "alternative rock" you know as a broad description for their music.

I think that some of MCR could be considered rock, but certainly not all of it. The majority of PATD is more like flashy prog-pop than anything else. They could both be considered alternative punk, or alternative pop-rock. Regardless of what genre their music falls into, I think they are both pretty good for what it is worth. But you're right most of it really isn't true rock.

**EDIT**
I would like to point out that they are both heavily commercialized, pop music is perhaps the worst kind of music, it lacks substance and clings to each of the new passing fads to sell. I still think they are pretty good, but not great. They both have a tendency to lean toward the lip-biting cold-hearted teenage angst phase every time they perform or make music. They have a sales demographic and that is their main concern, and it shows in their music. That's why it could never be true rock. Making music because it is good, and because it was inspirational is something pop music never does. It's always a matter of drawing the first crowds that will lend it's ears.

MCR is fine... but PATD is pure teenage crap! MCR has some songs that can be considered rock, but most of it is emo, the same that PATD and other bands like The All American Rejects

Panic! At The Disco is emo and My Chemical Romance is probably punk rock or something like that.

They're both versions of alternative rock.

I would also say they're in different categories... My Chemical Romance reinvents their sound at every album. Their first album (which I truly enjoyed) I would categorize as horror punk (a la Misfits. But really not at the same level at all.. maybe more of a horror pop punk. a la AFI). Their newest album has sunk further into the emo category, but with a definite inspiration in classic rock (big chords and riffs, etc).

Panic is something else entirely. I think they are one of the most inspired bands to come out of the genre in a long time.... but that genre? Yep. I'd say pop punk. (Although it far surpasses anything else in that category today....). Inspired pop punk with multiple influences and good writing. :)

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

I hate the labels they put on MCR's music. It depends on the time. First, they were called "Vampire Rock", then "Emo" it is ridiculous. It is all just rock..... But people have this insane thing about labeling genres.
