The package was sent "certified" mail so I had to sign for it. There was no return address either. Why would someone send copies of the newspaper to me in America? How would they have my name and address? Is this part of some kind of scam?

Hmm
You might want to report it to the FBI. They have a special taskforce that deals with international scams. They are the ones that go to Africa and bust the people that hussle the money from Naive Americans.
Or you might wan to read the paper and see if you can decipher any secret codes.
No but seriously if you are not sure do contact your local FBI office and let them know about the package, make sure you have the original package it came in, they might want to scan it for prints and search their database and find any matches.

or HT ... is doing a huge promo they taking peoples database and sending them complimentary copies across Bombay or Mumbai...

may be somewhere from the source that they purchased the data base even ur address came in

its a very reputed paper ... what i can suggest is go to their website and put a querry...

its the second largest selling indian english daily

Just promotional mail, read the newspaper and dump it, the return address is on the newspaperwith its publishers address printed on it somewhere.
