When this happens to me, I stretch the fabric in both directions to try to get the excess yarn to work it's way back into the stitches. Then take a small crochet hook and draw the extra yarn through to the back. You can tack it in place with a few small stitches of matching thread.

Try to weave or push the long piece of yarn back into the underside.Then tie it off securely. But not to tight

tie a knot as close to the jumper as possible and cut off the remaining thread. it won't fix the hole but it will stop it getting bigger
