6 each+ 1 for myself

I don't know how you can kill anything evenly, but if you meant "how would you evenly divide 19 cows....", then that's a horse of a different color.

Give each son six cows. Breed cow #19: Give the weaned calf to son number one, the milk rights to son number two, and the cow for son number three.

So, let me get this straight, the 19 cows have 3 sons, and you don't want to kill any cows evenly. Right?

Divide 19/3=6 and 1 remain
sell 1 cow and divide the money you got from selling/3
each son gets 6 cow and some money
no cow killed
okay?

ok...well this is an issue of fair division...there are several things to consider
-age
-milk production
-reproduction rate/potential
-size (weight)

ok...so now you take all of these thigns in to consideration, you would find the oldest cow...give it a rating of 1...the youngest cow a rating of 19, then you would go with milk production...the cow with the most milk...give a rating of 19, and the least milk 1, reproduction rate/potential, the best cow gets 19, the worst gets 1, and for size (weight) the biggest cow gets 19, the smallest gets 1.

now add each cows scores... so if they got 4 for age, 8 for milk, 10 for reproduction, and 7 for weight...they have a score of 29 each cow will have some score.

now...assign cows to each son so that the sum of scores each son has are about equal...this would be the fairest way to divide the cows

hope this helps,

Each would get 3 cows and each son would keep the last one 1/3 of the time

Does each cow have 3 sons? Or 3 sons all together?!

.

Borrow 1 more cow to make the total number of cows 20.

Give 1/2 to the eldest son = 10
1/4 to the middle one = 5
1/5 to the youngest son = 4

10 + 5 + 4 = 19

Return the borrowed cow back to its owner.

Well you are going to have one cow to many. So why not give the cow to one and share the milk of the cow with the two others.
