Mmm yeah impress wasn't the word I was trying for. More like surprise - you want to take a person out and they expect a certain genre like car chases and you go a different route like foreign films...some movie that reveals a different taste.

My favorite movie to watch in any situation is "While You Were Sleeping," but here's my answers:

1. you want a good cry? -- Armageddon or The Family Stone

2. you want to get in the mood for romance? -- The Philadelphia Story or the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice

3. you want some laughs? -- The Emperor's New Groove or The Importance of Being Earnest

4. you're on a date? -- Anything that isn't going to depress me. Most recently we saw "Stranger Than Fiction"

5. you want to impress someone? -- I don't usually watch movies to impress people, but I guess maybe something old? Most "intellectual" movies don't interest me.

1. Field of Dreams
2. Grease (cause my wife would surely reward me for sitting through that when it's her favorite movie of all time and my most despised)
3. Airplane, Top Secret, or Stripes
4. whatever my wife picks (we went to see Philadelphia on our first date, which didn't turn out to be the greatest date movie)
5. Midway or Gettysburg (cause I'm a history buff - although, I can't imagine using a movie to try to impress someone)
