I thought the crucial factor in Anakin becoming Darth Vader was that he thinks that he killed Padme. If he then finds out he has a son why doesn't he also then question how he was born, and then question if he did indeed kill his wife. Also why wait until his son is nearly dead and he himself is weakened before attacking the emperor ? If he wants to rule the empire with his son, wouldn't he have a better plan hatched? It's not like an apprentice has never killed their master, as in sidious and Darth Plagueis

"Loyalty" to the Sith isn't the same way we might think about the word. Apprentice is loyal to the master only as long as the master remains strong enough to resist the apprentice. Once weakness is perceived, the apprentice works to slay his master and become master to his own apprentice. At the point Vader finds out he has a son, he is in too deep, too buried in the embrace of the Dark Side to see the very obvious questions about what may have really happened to Padme. His only thought is to bring his son to the Dark Side as an apprentice, since Vader knows his son would also have great strength in the Force. Vader talks the Emperor out of trying to kill Luke for this reason, at least in the beginning. His initial plan is to capture Luke, break him down and bring him to the Dark Side, then take out the Emperor and rule as Sith Lord with his son as his apprentice. I think Vader believed his son would turn to the Dark Side and when Luke successfully denied that temptation, Vader "saw the light" and, for a brief moment, became a father and fought to protect his child.

because the emeror has had him under his spell since he was a young boy, he doesn't find out until Empire strikes back that he had a son and for him it was too late as obi wan has said " he is more machine now than man twisted and evil" it was at the end of Jedi when he realized that the emperor was about to corrupt his only son that he acts to save him from the same fate. i'm sure that shortly after he became darth vader he would have found out that Padme was indeed dead and I'm sure that he just assumed that his child was dead as well.

Because (a) there are lots of inconsistencies now between the original trilogy and Episodes I, II, and III, based on bad continuity writing.
(b) Because Vader had given himself over to the Dark Side, the easier, more "seductive" (if I'm quoting Yoda right) path. The conflict probably began when Vader found out he had a son, but that conflict was subdued by his obediance to his master (and the substantial power he had in the Empire). It began to grow once Luke became a Jedi, but didn't manifest itself into action until he saw his son nearly dying in front of him. Remember, all of Anakin (and Vader's) actions were taken to protect the people he loved the most (violating the Jedi Code of separation) -- His Mom (going back and ruthlessly killing the Sand People) -- His Wife (taking all of the actions toward the dark side to save her from what he believed was her imminent death) -- His Son (taking his own life to save his flesh and blood). It would take a dramatic event of that magnitude for Vader to repent and destroy his master.

Padme's death was not the only factor, he had a strong desire for power and was easily tempted by the Emperor. Also he was not trained in Jedi ways 'til he was older and not so engrained in their way of life. He thought at first to make Luke his apprentice but at the last minute realized his mistakes.

Seriously,...are u 4 real? Have u seen Darth Vader?-he's a walking air conditioning unit. Man, he is messed up! You fell for the cool image and the reality that he possosses a great amount of power. These points, however dazzling, do not mean that he is perfect. Like most classical protagionists, he has flaws...some fatal. Look at his past..born in time of war, seperated from his parents, seen his mother tortured(visions) and watched d live drain from her in his arms. If ONLY, he had more power.MORE POWER. He was convinced by a more experienced & malipulative malevolent mind, that this was the elixir for all d woes in his life. He became, NATURALLY, twisted. THEN, after been electro-fried by his master for good measure, his mind became further twisted in denying his humanity to kill all the young jedi warriors-children. Some who may have cryed, and looked into his eyes & begged for mercy. I would say, the BREAK in his mind can clearly be identified here. Fate wasn't finished yet...next he had limbs sliced clean off, then for a little bit of insult to injury, he was half barbequed alive in molten lava. the guy was a regular pinyada for abuse! Also, by sub-serviatating himself to a Master, partially absolved him from the responsibility & weight of his actions, psychologically anyway. Seriously, all things considered, this guy will never qualify for a united planets peace award or Mensa award. Powerful is not synonymous with clever it never was-ask Alexander the Great!-oh wait, he died at 33!! Hymm. Even the last God to give this earthly merry go round a pop, was tagged at 33...they just didn't have the technology to rebuild them then like Steve Austin!! Pity.No sequel. ANYWAY, Little Skywalker was all DV had left of Padme. Although DV's mind was warped( check out definitions of sociopath/psychopath), he still longed for comfort to his woes, as do we all-it drives us all. Skywalker was his son, true. But, mind being as it was, if he wasn't a part of the ultimate solution, he was just another obstacle. Infanticide was the next crazy solution. But in DV's mind...Skywalker was the last symbol of something that potentially was perfect, something he hadn't yet adultrated in some way-if SW had of joined him, he would have felt justified in all that he had done, with his conscience releaved to some extent. DV ultimately was tortured (by events directly & indirectly) & brainwashed...a happy camper doesn't stray off the beaten path and enter the dark side of the forest! DV, was a victim to start with, and a victim to end with. The fact that he made the ultimate sacrafice, testifies to this. He wasn't totally broken by the dark lord...he ultimately redemed himself. It was a massive sence of loss that twisted DV in loosing his Mother & Padme..and ironically when faced with the loss of his son, he was forced once again to look deep into his soul...watching the dark lord slowly kill SW gave him d few moments he needed to find The Anakin underneath a universe of pain & resurect him. So, if u find any, or all this, as baloney---ok, fine....last arguement to him being messed up, flawed etc, all that-HALF THE GUYS HEAD WAS MISSING WHEN HIS MASK WAS TAKEN OFF!!!What more proof d'ha need-d guy was dramatically imparred-give the guy a break! We've all had bad hair days,,,imagine how it'd feel having a bad skull day-see how sharp u r then in conquering the bloody universe..must have been hard enough tying his shoe laces!..if he could even look down to see them..haha. On a more serious note...the guy must have had a serious BO disorder-probably how he killed of some underlings-poisoned air-the guy obviously couldn't shower-he'd blow up!!

Darth Vader was probably so blinded with hatrid and anhger that he probably didn't care that Anakin was his son and didn't accept it until he was sying.

Isn't that exactly why He killed the emporer at the end. He finally figured it out.

I think that's the whole point of the end of ROTJ.
