Well work out how many journeys you will take per day and how much this costs and multiply it by the number of days per month. This will give you guide to how much you need to put on the card!! If however you are not sure how often you plan to travel then maybe you should just top it as you need it. But bearing in mind that a tube journey in london is £2.00 peak time and £1.50 off peak I think it will be better to buy a monthly card if you will be travelling nearly everyday because this will work out cheaper! A monthly oyster travelcard will cost you £89.10. Also useful to bear in mind that if you take lots of journeys in one day but are not planning to travel everyday fares on the tube are capped at £6.10 peak time and £4.60 off peak! This is basically the equivalent of a one day travelcard and thus you can make as many journeys as you like!!

I agree - just buy a month's travelcard on your Oyster and it won't matter how much you travel. If you do Pay as You Go you will be paying £1 for every bus journey you take and more for the tube per journey (max amount 1 day travelcard). It could work out more expensive than a month's travelcard if you plant to use it every day. Just face it - London is an expensive place to visit.

How much is enough? How much are you looking at travelling and on what- tube, bus?
How long is a piece of string is what you should have asked!
You can get a monthly travel card on Oyster- i think a zone 1 & 2 is about £80 for a month.
If youre talking pre pay it depends on how much you want to travel.

The cheapest option is to buy a month pass on your Oyster card.
