So if i hold a savings bond that was found for a year and it is unclaimed I have a right to it? How would I go about checking to see if it has been claimed?.

You may need to give more details of what you are talking about.

It sounds like you are saying that you 'found' a savings bond that belongs to someone else & you want to know that if you keep it for a year, that it becomes yours? If that is the case, then the answer is most certainly, no.

Finding something & keeping it from them for a certain time does not transfer ownership. The only one who can legaly claim that bond, is the persons whos name is on it. The next person would be thier beneficiary if named, then the estate. This is not 4th grade where possesion is 9/10 of the law!

My bonds were issued with my name and social security number. A name should be on the bond, so, in effect, it's not un-claimed, just misplaced.

I know that if a person loses there bonds that they can have them re-issued to him but if it is not claimed than you can get it. what you will have to get ahold of someone at the treasurey.
