My boyfriend has been in the U.S for seven years. He came here illegally with his parents when he was twelve years old. We been together for three years. He is now 20 years old and I am 18. I am a U.S. citizen. Where can we get married without them asking for proof that he is here legally?

Contrary to some of the answers on here. He will NOT be legal when you marry him, meaning that you cannot just become a citizen. He will still have no legal ID, social security number, and there are not many places in this country where you can get married without providing proof, such as a birth certificate from this country or social security card. I know this because my best friend was trying to marry someone from Mexico who came here illegally, try looking at Tennessee, call some court houses there. I remember her saying that some county in Tennessee would marry them if his documents from Mexico were translated into English, but they had to be certified still, meaning not just anyone can translate a legal document into a different language, but then who knows if you can even be married there, since they are cracking down on illegals.

Is it legal for you to get married at 18 in your state?
You can go to his country of origin and marry him there, then apply for him to come to the US as your spouse.
He did not commit a crime when he came as he was a minor and his parents were responsible. By returning and making a proper application you 2 can start your life together legally.

Do you REALLY want to hitch your star to someone who will have to be employed under the table? There will be significant problems for you down the road. I'd suggest he go back to wherever he came from and then you file for a fiancee visa. He can come back and marry you and then apply for citizenship.

Oh, and just so you know, he DOES NOT become legal just by marrying you. I'm going through this with my daughter's russian fiancee right now.

You need to talk with a immigration lawyer. If you're in a big city where there's a Catholic Charities office, they have low cost or free immigration lawyers to help you. Just get the phone number for the main office from the yellow pages.

You want to get married and also get his status in this country legalized. There's no advantage to him remaining illegal here. That just makes both of you constantly worried.

The problem with this country is people like you, always trying to find a way to keep illegals here instead of sending them back.

He came illegally, but wants to reap the benefits of a legal citizen?

Get a life.

You can get married with him without a problem. They shouldn't ask for his immigration status, that's discriminatory. I got married to my illegal girlfriend about 2 years ago and we don't have a problem, plus she'll be getting her legalization in a short time. You too, can legalize your boyfriend after marriage.

actually he'd be marrying for citizen ship. that's how he can become legal.... by marrying a citizen.... but being 18 i'd wait a few years before jumping into a marriage.... Don't you want to be able to have a glass of champange at your wedding? don't you want to go to college so you two can have a life that ISNT paycheck to paycheck..... if he loves you he will wait til you two can get married when it makes more sense....

he has been here for 7 yrs and didn;t even bother to file for a green card. Why didn't he file for citizenship or his parents. He could been a citizen a long time ago

Hmmm. . .I don't know. But as soon as you are married, he's legal! Maybe go to his country and get married or say he's visiting here and you guys are in love and get married. I'm sure he's allowed to visit.

Hopefully nowhere. Legalize him. And in response to other's answers, I don't believe marrying someone automatically legalizes them in all cases.
