We need to make a model of gas planet, Uranus. I'm looking for something other than a styrofoam ball to represent the gaseous planet. The planet looks blue-green from the gases. Any ideas?

Can you still get these fold out decoration in the shape of a sphere?

When folded, they look like a half-circle. They open us to a sphere, with the "volume" given by the unfolding material (paper-like).

You could color the outside (once open) with cyan (blue-green) spray paint. Then fix your planet in the 3/4 open position so that you can draw a cutaway on the cardboard surface (the two half-circles). Then get a very cheap nylon stocking, preferably white (which you will spray paint cyan) and cover the paper volume part, so that the outer layer looks like a more regular sphere (and the tenuous appearance of the sheer nylon will give more an appearance of atmosphere rather than solid surface.

Try a transparent plastic ball that you pump smoke or something similar into. Maybe dry ice + water. Then filter it through blue-green food coloring. Cooooooooool...

Why don't you show a cutaway of the interior of the planet? You could also show the ring structure.
