I don't know about rumours, but I do know that Sting was a teacher before joining The Police, and that the song touched on the topic of being a young male teacher with hot young schoolgirls around.
Regarding Every Breath You Take... I like that song, but I would hardly call it romantic. Somebody watching every move someone else makes has mental problems.

Lots of good songs but I'd have to say "Sprits in the Material World" is probably my favorite because of the bass line.

I know it's a little off the wall, but I think it's "Miss Gradenko" from Synchronicity.
Why? I just like the groove of it..
Also love the Ghost in the Machine album. I like the tightness of the songs and the message is a little more edgy.

It's hands down their best song and of course the rumor of the song was about Sting having at it with his teacher
