Soccer is considered a joke in the USA. If Pele couldn't make fans like the sport in the 1970s how is this guy Beckham going to do it?

Unless he's a player who's revolutionized the game I don't see why anyone will care about seeing this guy.

What is he famous for, faking injuries? Bribing referees? Head butting Italian guys?

Hes a very average footballer and he was average even when he was at his best.He is a massive media phenominon though.

Hes probably the worlds first "footballer for women"hence the media hype,on top of that he married a pop star which was the cherry on the cake.

But a million dollars a week?!?come on,pure and utter lunacy.

He is an ok crosser of the ball, steve finnan is just as good.
beckham better than john barnes?no way,at least barnes could get past a player.
better than most right midfielders?no,at least most rightsided midfielders can cut inside.
a great free kick taker?come on like, alonso, risse, even harte.
Compare beckham to damien duff?if beckham gets a million a week then duff should get 3 million because he's 3 times better.

Complete lunacy.

Ask stephen gerard what he thinks of beckham(mind you gerard isnt married to a pop star)

If he was that good he would be getting marked to death.I have only ever seen beckham marked by the opposition once, hardly an indicator that opposing teams consider him a threat.

The whole beckham thing is just weird.
The only thing i can get out of his transfer to the L.A.galaxies(?) is that such money might turn a few footballers heads and get them to consider plying their trade in the U.S.

Pele is also not as good looking as David Beckham. You might not no, but physical appearance plays a huge factor in marketability in the USA. Lots of girls love Beckham, so don't be surprised if they all the sudden decide to love soccer too. I'm not saying those are the only fans soccer is going to get because it's not. Hopefully by bringing someone as marketable as him here to the US, it'll create some interest.

Um... no. Zidane was responsible for the headbutting. the other two stuff i don't know.
David beckham is a freakin' @s who seriously, seriously sucks. Just who does he think he is? he used to be a good player and all, but now he's way obsessed with his appearance and all that, and he's not a good player anymore. I totally agree with you about the seeing him part. he is an idiot. a sad, pathetic moron. argh. i hate him so much.
i have no idea why he even thought that he could lead england to victory in last year's fifa world cup. he thinks way to highly of himself.
and now what's become of him?
he's married to a woman with a seven year old's waist who is totally bimbotic. he had to make her gain weight so she could support their forth child. FORTH. doesn't he already have enough children?
and now he's no longer with real madrid, and his old team (man utd) won't take him in again.
he stinks.

the full thought of knighthood (and something "Royal") is sooo 14th century. The Royal kin is in basic terms a drained vacationer attraction that something of the international laughs at for their inbreeding and pompas strategies-set. Why could Beckham - or absolutely everyone else - want to connect this style of stupid club?

if soccer is a joke in the US it's because ppl in the US are all obese with low IQ's.....
cz american football (which was originally invented by england) is a version for those too weak to play rugby and rugby is a version for those too stupid to play football(the real one) ....that's why americans like that silly game instead of football(the real one) ....

he is the best crosser of the ball in the world. when he was young he was possibly the best midfielder in the world. he is famous for his good crossing and his free kicks and he was a great play-maker. he isn't that good anymore because he is old but he is still a good crosser of the ball. if you didn't know who he is you're dumb
