My doctor prescribed tylenol with codeine for my migraines. I trust him as my OB, thats why I chose him. I have only used it three times in the past three days, but I have noticed a decrease in fetal movement. I am only 16 weeks along, so the movement is sporadic at best as it is.
I see him next week, so I will ask him as well, just curious if anybody actually knows if it does affect movement.

thanks for all the answers so far...I am 16 weeks into my 4th, so i am feeling movement a little earlier, although sporadic as I said.
My doctor is very trustworthy, I would not have chosen him after my research if I did not trust him.

I think your baby will be fine. Codeine is one of the most perscribed pain medications used during pregnancy. Its not like you're taking 10mg every 4hrs. Tylenol with codiene has like 3mg I think. Either way it has a very low dose. I was perscribed 5mg tabs for my ruptured disk at 9 weeks. I was still in my first trimester and my Dr. perscribed them so it has to be pretty safe! Your Dr. will Know your answer for sure. Good luck!

It might. I too have been on this for migraines while pregnant. The codeine can act as a depressant for the baby, causing it to have more "rest" periods and less active time. Make sure you only take this when needed and count movements. But at 16 weeks, remember that only some of your baby's movements are strong enough to feel. If you are really concerned, call your doctor and ask him.

If I was in your situation, I would stop taking them for now. I have only used Regular Tylenol occasionally during my pregnancies as recommended by my doctor, so I couldn't really tell you what is going on.
At 16 weeks, you won't feel the fetal movement that you would at 32 weeks. Regardless, if you notice that your baby's activity doesn't increase, I would see a doctor just to be safe.

I would guess that it would have the same affect on the baby as you, probably even a little stronger, so it wouldn't surprise me if the baby is not moving as much. At 16 weeks tho, i would think it's hard to tell, the baby usually has just started moving, and it's hard to tell if there are definite patterns. I would watch and keep track of when the baby is moving though, so that if you don't feel it for a while you can call the doctor, or go to the hospital.

Codeine crosses the placenta and definitely will make your baby lethargic... aka sleepy. Just like it makes you feel. I would never take something like that while pregnant, especially early on, but if you're suffering with migraines who am I to judge. My mom suffers from severe migraines and I know there's not much to take that pain away. You should do some searches on Yahoo regarding the effects of codeine on pregnancy.

To be honest with you I would never take tylenol with codeine. I would ask another doctor about that. lay down on the couch and place something light on your belly i used a plastic cup and see what the baby will do. I did that when I was pregnate and the baby would kick it. please be very careful taking medication while you are pregnate let your doctor know that your baby is not moving much.good luck

yea it will affect babys movements. it will put baby to sleep. im sure it does the same thing for baby as it does for u. at 16 weeks though, ur not feeling every movement yet. u feel the hard kicks baby makes. the lil ones are still unoticed.share ur concern with Doc but im sure if he prescribed it for u then im sure he knows it will be ok. hes not going to purposly drug u with a med that he knows will hurt the baby, duh! just take them when u really need it. otherwise i think u should try regular tylenol if u are that concerned.

He is a doctor and he should know what he is talking about, but I know there are doctor's that don't give a **** about you and will give you anything. If it was me, I would get a second opinion. Codeine is really strong and everything you take, the baby takes.
