just go put in applications, most trucking companies will pay you while they train you, depending on how much training you need. My brother-in-law drives trucks and makes damn good money, so it's worth it.

Find a trucking company that also offers you to obtain your cdl while going through their school. Ie like Swift, Werner, Milan Express, US Express, etc... Alot of the major trucking companies offer a driving school to obtain your cdl that will not cost you as long as you commit to work for them for a period of time. Meanwhile while in the learning process you are not going to make much money. One you get the expierence your pay will increase as well as your knowledge. Good luck to you, and I hope that you realize what you are getting into. As I have been there done that and am still driving my truck down the road. I have been a commercial driver for 8 years now and I would not trade my cdl for anything. this also depends on if you want to drive a class a truck or a class b truck. the difference between the two is this , one is a combination vehicle like a tractor trailer which is what I drive, the other is like a dump truck, etc...
I wish you the best. If you cant find a company that offers cdl training, then look for a community college that offers the courses or a commercial driving school. Either way if you can endure the hardships and know that driving is for you, you will find much satisfaction in your choice. But if you are doing it thinking that it is a way to make a quick buck, you might want to rethink it, because commercials drivers have not had any pay increases in years. There is alot more to driving a commercial vehicle than just driving it. You got alot of paperwork to do, you got to know how to read a map, know how to plan a route to get you destination, and know how to make good jusdgements. If you get tired driving around town, then driving might not be for you as you will be driving up to 800 miles a day. If you suffer from road rage, driving might not be for you either, as people tend to think that we can stop on a dime but in all reality we cant. There is alot to learn before you take on the quest of being on the road driving a commercial vehicle by yourself. Companies offer training that usually last anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks, to where you learn the basics of the road and driving and your responsibilities while driving, and your paperwork etc.. with someone who has had more expierence and is considered to be a trainer for the company you are working for. During this time your pay is limited and you will not make much.
Good luck

You need to try and find a company that will take you on as a trainee. With your permit, you can drive with a licensed person until you feel confident you can pass your skills test.It is not easy to find many companies like that.I just went through the whole thing and I ended up going to a school. It cost me $1000 but it was money well spent in my opinion. They train you,set up your test and if you do not pass the first time, they will usually set up a second test for free or a nominal fee.I just passed my test 2 days ago for Class B.Good Luck!!

Go to a truckstop and pick up a free issue of TruckPaper. This is a weekly newspaper with lots of ads for drivers and many outline paid training programs.
