I took a remote sensing course in college and to the best of my understanding it goes like this: Remote sensing relies on the receiving of signals through space, whether they are bounced off of an object (active) or simply received (passive.) Those signals can be easily disrupted by solar flares and prominences due to their highly powerful magnetic fields. In most cases, they will simply distort or disrupt the information flow. However, they have been known in the worst case scenario to throw the satellite completely offline.
