What is the cost of owning a mobile home, aside from the purchase price. I have a piece of land I want to put a mobile home on but do they come with their own electricity and water? What are the costs of repair?

This is not for a main residence....a recreational property, like a cottage.

That depends entirely on where you live. If you live in WA, expect to pay at least $100,000 for a used home. In the midwest, you could probably get one for $40,000. I think you need to have electricity and water run to it. Costs of repair are the same as on any other home.

As a second home or recreation property, take a look at what is called a "Park Model". If you plan on this being a permanent installation look into pre-fab. Costs are different in every part of the country. You need to talk to a local. As far as repair costs you have the cart before the horse. You have water, septic, and electric which will be substantial, all prior to repair costs.

You have to check with your town about location. Most towns
will not allow mobile homes on separate lots and only allow them
in mobile home parks. There also exceptions to that rule eg.,
If the chassis ( wheels & axel) are removed and the home is put
on a permanent foundation.
If you must have the home in a park then you will pay fees for
lanscape,mowing,garbage removal,snow plowing and other
fee which the park associations bylaws require.
The mobile home itself comes self contained in respect to electricity and plumbing. You have to pay a hook-up fee and
monthly fees for electricity, water and sewer. These costs are
regulated by the Power co.,Water co., and local sewer board
for your district
There is not much need for repairs to a mobile home unless
some accidental fire or flooding accurs then you will have to
get a contractor for anything major. The park associations usually
have there own lists of people who can do any repairs. Almost
everything is readily accessible from under the home or inside.
Good Luck.

Is is a manufactured home? Or a mobile home? Usually a manufactured home is set up on blocks, concreted down~~~some people call those "mobile" but very difficult to make that way after it is once set up on your property.
If it is a manufactured home you will need a power pole linking you to your electric company. You will need a well dug, or get linked up to your water company. And depending on if you have sewer, which you usually have if you have a water company, or not you may need to get a septic tank.
Those things run probably about 10,000 dollars to have those set up.
Not really sure about an RV, if that is what you are calling a mobile home.
Good Luck!
*Had to add something here after hearing what one of your comments were. First off, if you are going with a brand new one make sure you go with a company that is well-known. Palm Harbor, Homes of Merit, Fleetwood. They usually have awesome warranties that take care of everything in the house for usually 5 years. I have had mine since 2002 and absolutely NO problems. People walk into my "house" and think it beautiful. I would have rathered had a 2300 sq. ft. "trailer" then a 1200 sq. ft. house. If they are such pieces of crap then why does FHA let you get them? Never had to repair anything in mine at all. My uncle is a carpet layer and said they put high quality carpet in it, high quality padding. I get so sick of people calling trailers a "cheap" home, that is bull! BUT I cannot stress this more know the manufacturer. I have known of people who get one and then the company folds and then the person has problems and has no one to sue.*

You would be better off building your home. Either way the extra expenses are. Having electric brought in. Drilling for water. Placing a septic system if you do not have city water and sewage.

Please, please check this out with your local (where your land is located) officials for questions about utilities, septic/sewer systems, etc.
Friend of my family bought a trailer (mobile home), set it up, and then found out they weren't allowed to run elec. or water to it.
LOTS of headaches - not worth the "cheap" cost of a trailer! Rent/buy a real house first, or go to an apt.
