If it's an appointment you have waited along time for then go ahead and go, they can still do the exam, but speaking from experience, I would reschedule. Pap smears are already uncomfortable enough, and while you are on your period your cervix is more sensitive, not to mention the fact they tell you to sit there on the table and wait for the doctor while you are bleeding every where. Its very embarrassing to say the least.

You can get a partical pelvic exam under these curcumstances. Your doctor can do the palpation part of the exam, but your menstrual flow will not allow your doctor to see your cervix. That was the explanation that I got a few years ago, when I was being examined in an ER for pelvic pain.

Call your doctor's office, let them know, and ask if you should reschedule your appt.

No the Doctor can't do a pelvic exam if you are in your period. I to see the doctor the other day and he send me to do one, but i told him that I was in my period and he said that I had to wait until it was gone.

Yes I have tried to cancel appts for this reason and they will do a pelvic but may have a hard time getting a clean smear if you are flowing heavily it's kind of gross but gynecologists have seen it all so don't worry it's a good idea to let them know ahead of time tho they may cancel depends on your dr I would imagine

you can but you need to tell them and also sometimes if they do a PAP during your period if something was wrong it may not show it up. YOu are supposed to have it at least one week after your period and not have sex for at least 24 hours before you have one to get the best results

You can but generally the best time to go is one week after your period. Being on your period can cause your pap results to come back abnormal when their not. Call your Doc for sure.

Yes, it is still ok if it is at the very beginning or very end of your period. I'd warn the doctor before the exam!

My doctors have done a pelvic exam while I was cycling. I would call they may not want to. Never hurts to ask.

It depends on how bad it is. If you just started then usually yeah. Call the doctor to be sure though.
