My brother was cremated for about 1000 dollars I think. We just had a memorial service after. I plan to be cremated, than my kids can do what they want for a service after. My opinion the funeral services are for the living to get rid of some of the grief, I will be dead I don't care what they do. Some people just put up pictures of the person and have what is just like a normal funeral otherwise.

My dad's cremation was 1800 - we had a friend who was a pastor that offered a memorial service for a reduced cost. You could hold your own memorial somewhere like in the home and invite others to stop by. It's a little unusual, but it'll save on costs.

Others have had their family members cremated, and distributed in favorite places, or placed into urns for that one special place in the home.

My sister's funeral was about 9000 for a coffin and burial into a plot that we already had in the family.

In my area it runs only around 1800 BUT then they charge for transporting the body to the crematorium and lots more. Five thousand does sound high, maybe this amount is for the rent on the chapel as well. I've never heard of just the cremation, transport and urn being more than around 3 thousand max.

Here where I am, it costs about $600.00. This would be without a funeral service.
