It is a bad example because spiders lives mostly on insects like flies. So there was no need to kill the spider.
The butterfly is pretty and cause no harm.
While the spider can bite you and most humans will kill them because of that. Plus... they are creepy.
So... I would have saved the butterfly and killed the spider because I don't like them. Where I live... I have spiders as big as my hand... When they come in my house... they die... it's a territorial thing...

Neither is right. Their all wrong. The brother doesn't have the right to save the butterfly and the other brother doesn't have the right to kill the spider.

Neither. I find spiders fascinating, and when younger and bored, would catch bugs of varying sizes and thrown them into the spider's web and watch the action unfold.
So, I think it was wrong to save the butterfly and it was wrong to kill the spider.

Let nature be the judge. If the butterfly is meant to get out it will and if the spider should get to the butterfly, which will be a good food source for it, let it. Let nature take its course.

Near my house? Kill the spider - save the butterfly - definately. Don't want any spider's in my house around my family. Could be poisionous, I can't tell to look at them.
Out in a field somewhere? I would try to let both live.
My husband won't kill spiders and it drives me nuts. If he finds one in the house, he let's it loose outside. I tell him it just comes back in! I don't want to wake up with a spider on my face! (maybe biting me!)

Neither, spiders not only eat butterfly's, they eat other insects also. Butterfly's life span is shorter than a spider. Who's right? Depends on how deep you get into insects.

It is a very good question!
I think I would also sit back and watch the inevitable happening. But, instead of letting the spider starve, I would rather kill him.

wow well, I would have to say I would proabaly try to save the butterfly, and left the spider alone. He would have eventually found some new food, and if I didnt see it, I wouldnt have to worry.

There is no right or wrong in nature, there is only survival. Mankind puts that spin on it. It was that buferflies fate to be eaten by the spider, so I would just watch.
