It's definately better!!!! Dragons and magical battles are waaaaaay better than the lame spells Harry Potter casts. And the movie kicks butt as well! [unlike harry potter... which is Boring! and too juvenile]

Well, I can honestly say that this is definitely not one the easiest questions I have ever answered. I LOVED both of them and I guess they are both really good (and bad) in their own ways, if you really think about it, the two books aren't really alike that much. But, anyways, Harry Potter is good because you always know what Harry is thinking and because it really makes you think about things. Also because the author doesn't usually just tell you things, she might foreshadow a little, but you generally have to wait and find things out at the same time that Harry finds out. Eragon is good because it has absolutely wonderful descriptions that aren't to complex and so you can therefore really picture what is going on in the story. It has a lot of action and jaw-dropping moments. I also like that it always keeps you wondering what will happen next. Now the bad things are that, in Harry Potter, well, let's just say J.K. has a little too much british style in her desciptions sothat sometimes it can be hard to visualize some of the descriptions. They're not books that you can read (and actually understand EVERYTHING that the author is saying when you're in bed and are practically half-asleep). And, Eragon....hmmmmmm, I really have to think on this one. I really don't think that Eragon has anything wrong with it; not anything that I can think of anyway...I honestly don't know. Well, then I think I'd have to answer your main question then, and say that I like Eragon better. But don't get me wrong, I love Harry Potter, too. However, I have no regrets in saying that I like Eragon better than Harry Potter... I really hoped that helped and that you find what you were looking for somewhere in the speech that I practically just wrote... Good luck!

I think they were both great. Which Harry Potter book? There are 6.
Surely you have read them all?
Charactures are both well developed.
Eragon is another world completely and Potter has the magical world that co exists with our world in secret.
Do you have to do these two? they are so similar in story type (poor young orphan boy becomes great and saves the day through intelligence , cunning and perseverence against evil magial powers by using magical powers ) there are many more similaries than differences.
for the record I disliked nothing about either one I bought 2 copies of Eldest so the kids wouldn't fight! I can't wait for the 7th potter book and the 3d eragon book !

I really liked both books, actually. I have yet to see the Eragon movie but the book was good so I'm assuming the movie will be as well. Is Eragon a series? I've only seen that one book out about it. I like reading series books, so I really like Harry Potter. The story line is really good too. I like non-fiction stuff and fantasy type books. There was another interesting book about dragons that I read but I can't remember the name of it. I can't really say that one is better than the other because I enjoyed both of them. If you haven't read Inkspell or Inkheart yet, you should definitely check them out.

Personally I have found more in Harry Potter that is worthy of attention than I have in Eragon.

I have written three major college-level papers on themes in Harry Potter and have found very little to write on in the Inheritance books, but I am a fan of both. I don't like it when people trash either series.

I like the Harry Potter books because of the Romantic (not in a love-sense) tradition that the storyline follows, and the fact that the storyline grows with the characters. I love the way that Rowling plays with tradition and myth, but puts it in new and different contexts. I think this is a good way to get younger audiences to start to do research and study things like history and mythology.

I enjoy Eragon and Eldest because of the way I can see Paolini's influences and I love the world that he created for Eragon to inhabit. I love that it was based not on some old-world idea, but the landscape of Montana. I like that he's continuing the fantasy tradition in the US and using familiar concepts, like dragons and elves, to bring audiences to his story.

The source below is a good academic reference for the Harry Potter series. I don't know of any similar works for Inheritance, sorry!

The Harry Potter books are better mainly because the writing is so much better. I think Paolini will grow into a better writer, but he's very young and needs a bit of polising.

I agree...

I LOATHE Harry Potter and believe it to be an OBVIOUS result of an out of work mother on welfare trying to make a fortune using subject matter that had already become popular way back in the 70's and rehashing it and making a fortune off it.

She just jumped on the bandwagon by noticing a trend and feeding into it in the form and shape of bad writing.
