I live in west Texas, sorta the west edge of "Tornado Alley" and one time during a really heavy rain storm I went outside to make sure the windows were up on all the vehicles. I was about 50 yards from the house and started hearing this tremendous roar. I looked up and it was too late. All I could see was what looked like a solid wall of water coming at me. Luckily I had an old Mash ambulance parked between the house and the haybarn. I ran as fast as I could, just about the time the wall of water knocked me down, I dived under that old ambulance and wrapped myself around the driveshaft. Probably 20 to 30 seconds later (felt like 10 minutes) it had passed. I never really saw a tornado, just a wall of water. But my Mom was watching out the back door. She saw the tornado, and me running. She just didn't see me dive under the ambulance, so she thought it had carried me away. By the time I crawled out of my hiding place she was already outside and totally freaked out. I never knew what hit me till Mom told me a tornado had come through. It wrecked a few trees and smashed a barn but I got away only slightly shaken, even less than Mom, who thought she'd lost her little boy.

I still have that old ambulance, still take it for a drive ever once in a while, I figure it saved my life so it's a keeper.

I live in southwest mo. I have been in several. Once had a tree go down on the car and take off part of a roof. Another a tree fell on the propane tank and back of the house. A few years ago we had a tornado wipe out a trailer park just a few miles from our home. Killed another person a few miles from that, a friend I use to work with as a matter of fact. Was probably one of the rarest of people truly a good person. She was picked up out of her home by the tornado her husband was holding her at the time and threw her down several hundred feet away killing her instantly. Her husband was also thrown but survived. Tornadoes are a very scary and dangerous thing.

I have not been in one but I know that it passed over here... it was really early morning and it was storming bad, windows were rattling really badly and I could hear stuff blowing around outside, then all of a sudden it was extremely quiet (I think it was passing over then) I turned on the news and sure enough the weatherman was telling people to take cover immediately.. the tornado touched down about 8 miles from where I live and quite a few of my friends homes were ruined, but no one that I knew got seriously hurt

I have been in 3 in Indiana. One was in sixth grade... half the roof was ripped off. Kind of scary. The other times were at home. You just go into the basement and wait it out. Both of those times we didn't have any real damage, just broken windows and uprooted trees. The most vivid time was when I was 6. We were in the basement and I wanted to see, so I snuck upstairs and looked outside the window and saw the tornado touch down a couple blocks away. It was unbelievable! I still remember it to this day! ( I also remember the whipping i got for leaving the basement... lol)

Yes - I was in High School in Colorado and I saw this triangle cloud coming right towards the school. I pointed it out to my teacher and he lost it - he flipped the alarm and shuffled us out to the hall. We all had to sit against the walls while the tornado spun around the school. I was told we were in the eye. It was noisy and cold but I felt safe in the thick brick building and my friends and I started the hall singing songs from the Wizard of Oz. Maybe it was because I was a precocious teen but I never felt fear. I will never forget the experience though.

No, however that's my dream to be certain one. they are surprisingly captivating. i might want to be the guy chasing the tornado or watching it from the window. i might want to run in direction of the tornado. Then if it were given too close i might want to run away.
