Alaska, Las Vegas, and Fairfax County, VA usually have lots of openings for teachers. However, you also have to look at the cost of living in those areas as well. Look at the are that you are specialized in and see where the need is greatest. Special Ed., math, and science are always in demand. Also, look at the pay (you've got to eat!) and see how it stands up to that state's average as well as surrounding districts. How often will you get a raise, how does their pay scale work (some districts top out at 15 yrs, some at 18yrs), how can you receive non-state issued pay increases. In Memphis(TN) you get an increase for Masters, Masters plus 45 (30 course hours beyond Masters), Specialist, and Doctorate. The Masters plus 45 is actually the largest bump in pay, $4000! Also, look at the community and surrounding areas, are the places you would want to live and raise your children?

Teaching is a pretty open position. If not for a full-time teacher, schools are always looking for substitute teachers or part-time faculty.

If you are looking for a job I suggest registering on a site like www.monster.com which will help you find employers hiring and you can be more specific about where you would like to live, as for all I know you could be looking in Utah or Uruguay..

Good luck.

Everywhere. Right now is not a good time to be applying for a teaching position. The best time to apply is at the end of the school year and during the summer. Call district offices. Login to district websites. You will probably have to apply many times before you get an offer, unless you know someone in the district. Right now, maybe you shouls look into subing wherever you want to teach. Then, you will have a better chance of being hired.

There are always tons in Los Angeles, Arizona, Texas, and LasVegas. Go to an teacher career fair (they are usually in the spring) in your state. I know that Oregon's is in April. Also larger school districts also have career fairs starting in Jan-Feb. Just do your research in your area.
