If so, what do believe will initially lead to the war?

There will undoubtably be a WWIII; but I hope to God that nukes will not be involved, as were threatened during the Cold War. I beleive it will start in the Mid-East and spread out from there to include most of that entire area, including parts of Africa and the Indian pennisula (sounds familiar already doesn't it?) The ball's already getting rolling. Hopefully we can stop it.

It's not only possible, its probable. In view of the aging Russian early warning systems, a nuclear war could happen at any time. You hear of all the talk about Iran and terrorists getting ahold of A nuke. Little is heard about the two bulls in the glass shop. You may wonder why i jump to the nuclear scenario, how can it not be if both sides find no price for victory too high.

The arsenals of the US and Russia are the scary scenarios when you're talking nuclear war. Not so much the US causing it, but mainly from an accidental launch by the Russians thinking that NATO or the US launched against them. It nearly happened in 1995, when the Russian 'suitcase' with the launch codes was activated for the first time in history....and this was in the POST-Cold War!!!

At any given time in history, there are numerous wars and conflicts going on. Currently there are 40+/- conflicts in the world. The only time the WORLD WAR status is attibuted to a war is when the superpowers square off on opposite sides in open declarations of war. We are far from that scenario, altho i agree the spark is there to ignite a larger conflagaration. But for now, just think regional conflicts, proxy wars, brinksmanship and disagreements between rump states.

When the US, Russia and/or China square, then come back and we'll talk WW III. The history books haven't declared the Cold War as WWIII or the current war on terror as WWIV. You'll know when WWIII hits, that burst of EMP will be your first warning....

I think it is inevitbale that we will have WWIII. Look how the countries were alligned during the Cold War, you had those that were Capitalistic and those that were communist. The world was divided following those guidelines and if conflict erupted, most countries followed along those lines of Communist or Capitalist. Today, you can see how countries are still alligned by their allies. During the Iraq war, many nations banded together against Iraq but Iraq really didn't have any allies. If war broke out over...for example...North Korea, North Korea has always had allies with China and to some extent Russia. With the way the world seems like it is against America right now, China and Russia may decide to back aggression against North Korea and if it is a big enough issue and America enters into a war with North Korea, China and Russia may enter into War to defend them. America will most likely gather their allies with Great Britain. Form this, more countries with a stake in the battle could choose sides and enter into the conflict.

We will lead to the next war greed and jealously are the building blocks of us. A simple child bullying another can start a war because for one reason why are they bullying someone and does this effect anyone else and their future. Because the victim might hate the world for having such horrible people being in the world. But the real issue is money this i belive will lead to WW3 because countries are going from LEDC countries to MEDC countries and those left will be looking from one another trying to start a war because they have something better. World Wars are huge they need a massive amount of disagreeing to start a war but i think we should more be bothered about the small wars that regular people have to endure every day. There are plenty of examples of why certain people dont get on the major of cause is Racism that starts most wars but Racism is just another form of jealousy. So what will lead to a war one day us, after all we created money, we get jealous and even though some may think otherwise we are all different. And yes there will be one day maybe not in my or your lifetime but the world is getting worse so theres bound to be more.

The third world war is predicted in the bible, and gave the specific geographic coordinates of Russia. So, YES, there absolutely will be a third world war, and that will be / trigger Armageddon, and I think that it will start a lot like the trade center (GBWY). The end of days is predicted to last for many years with much pain and suffering, the mark of the beast will be used. Receive the mark, you don't get into heaven.
My grandparent's are VERY religious, and they have speculated the it will be something like your SS# tattooed or a bar code implant. Scary considering that new smart pay card is the size of a 50 cent piece.
On The Side ~ Law and Order SVU, a couple of weeks ago, had a thing about a husband LOWJACKING his wife (implanted GPS microchip, inserted with a syringe while she was sleeping. So, it can be done. I think that it will be something far more useful like in Minority report, no more $ transaction, just wave. Seriously......I guess the real question for me is not if, but when?

many factors could trigger WWIII the most likely being resources.

As they run out, you will witness a desperate scramble as nations squable to get their share (you could say this is already happening as the US rampages across the middle east)

most likely though would be a second cold war, between the West again this time versus a much more unified Russia & China.

I dont believe there will be one though, and i hope not as well, because we live in the age of the ultimate weapon. Where any of the main players who felt threatened enough would use them

It depends on your classification. Some people believe that the Cold War could be considered WWIII, and the current War on Terror WWIV.

I hope there won't be a WWIII but I'm sure there will be eventually. Over what? Who knows. It'll probably take place in the Middle East.

Well, you could argue that it is already happening in Iraq. It will not take much to overspill to the other countries in the region and then drag others in (eg through the UN) to try and sort it out.

The cause of any war can be answered in one simple word - LAND.

A lot of people will say "Its over religion", but scratch under the surface and there will be the acquisition of land somewhere underneath.

I think war has taken a change in direction.
Once we rode on horses, then we dug ourselves in trenches, then we bombed each others houses (a brief history missing out huge chunks of history).
Now people just pick anyone, anytime, anyplace. We're at war now, think of all the countries involved; it's the world.
The orgins of where we are go right back to the British Empire and likewise the history of every other country involved. I find it too complicated to fully understand myself (a simplified version would be WW1 and it's possible origin dating back to 1887 (I think - can't be arsed to Google it right now) and from the gradual forming of alliances throughout Europe).

Part of me contemplates that maybe (on a more interpersonal level) because we live in a world where people migrate and live in different countries to those they were born in etc, people are scared of losing their sense of identity. People have a natural instinct to want to form an identity and join with others who are likeminded. At the end of the day perhaps we should just all chill out and realise we are all individuals...I'm sorry, I'm rambling, I will stop now.

Basically, in my opinion, it's two fold:
a) Countries holding grudges against each other or interferring in other countries business etc.
b) And people in general getting annoyed with the politicians and fearing losing their sense of identity.
