I think I had the 'bloody show' this morning. It was the mucus with blood in it and now my lower back is really hurting. I went to the doctor yesterday & I was 2cm plus she streched me out some to hopefully get things started. I am 38 1/2 weeks along. In your case how long was it until you had the baby?

Due to my maternity leave I am at work. I have a desk job, so I cant get up and walk around too often. Plus I work in a machine shop with a bunch of guys that just don't understand the pains of being pregnant.

early stages only - otherwise you wouldn't be in work!
Don't worry about men not understanding pregnancy, the laws of the land do!

Same thing happened to me. Lost my plug then was having really painful contractions. I hate walking and also have a desk job. What I recommend you do is sleep as much as possable. When you go home tonight PLEASE try and get some sleep. Labor will be very soon. (I think for me it was like 5 days, I went to the hospital like 3 times before they actually kept me because I was only 2cm) My contractions were so bad I couldn't sleep then I gave birth, then I was a mom. I was very over tired and overwhelmed. I say sleep now because its only ganna get worse! Good luck. (go to the hospital if your contractions last for 30 sec's and are about 5 minutes apart)

I'd leave your workplace *now* and go home.

You're in pre-labour now and your male colleagues will get really freaked out if your waters break. The show is a bit icky, but it gets pretty messy once your waters break!! It may be some time before that happens, but there's really no way to tell except that you will *know* something is going to happen and, before you have time to do anything about it, it will happen.

Go home, take warm showers or baths and walk around or do whatever helps. Get your husband or birth partner to come over and be with you and call the hospital.

When I was 38 weeks, I went and had my weekly appointment and contractions started. When I got home I had bloody show (mucus with blood), and the contractions continued. My son was born the next afternoon! So good luck! Keep an eye on yourself, and contact your doctor to let them know!

What in the heck are you doing at work??? You are definitely in labor. My sister in law delivered 4 in under 3 hours each, the last one in an elevator.

My daughter took start to finish 12 hours (but it was mild until 2 hours before delivery) she was breech and a forceps baby so they knocked me out.

My son took two years (he is adopted). Just a little humor.

Congratulations.

Sounds like you have lost your mucous plug.

I gave birth to my son less than 2 days after my water broke / lost my mucous plug. My labour was 28 hours long. My contractions started 16 hours after my water broke. My contractions started off like strong menstrual cramps, but gradually became longer and more intense (started around 10-15 minutes apart...later on were around 2-5 minutes apart).

If you are starting to have consistent contractions that are around 5 minute apart, that are gradually lasting longer and becoming more intense, it would be wise to call your doctor and head off to the hospital.

Good luck!

Start timing those contractions! First time 13 & 1/2 hours. Second time only 3. Third time induced. Good luck mom.

Three days was the longest that I went over the due date. I read that you need adequate calcium and vitamin E for labour to work properly. I can't imagine how frustrated you must be. I wish you the best of luck.

That was the plug, or parts of it. Means your effacing and dilating more. You're moving right along. The lower back pain is back labor.

Get up and walk around, it will encourage labor.

I never went into labor on my own, I was induced at 40 weeks. The lower back pain sounds like labor, if it continues or worsens you may want to go in.

I never had any braxton hicks contractions before I went into labour. I lost my mucous plug and started irregular contractions about 24 hours before my son was born. They were more regular and down to every 5 minutes 10 hours before he was born (that's when we went to the hospital).
