I read an interview with a 'celeb' in some magazine where she was raving about her £200 toothbrush, perhaps it's the same one. It beggars belief in a world where most people are struggling to survive. I can see the day coming when Woody Allen's machine for a couple to have hows-your-father (the Orgasmatron, in 'Bananas', I think) will be a reality. A sad day.

Just like when we go on vacation, we do it so we can be able to tell other people where went, how much fun we had, and how cool it would be to have stayed there. Necessity may be the mother of invention, but we are the bastard children of desire, we want stuff that we don't need just to have.
