Is trust an all-or-nothing thing? Or a matter of degrees? Can you trust some people with respect to certain matters and not others?

Do you have any examples - in business, in romance, and otherwise?

What do you think?

Thanks!

Trust is black and white....I know these days the buzz is all about gray but try paying half of your house payment or rent and see how far that gets you. You'll get trusted right out onto the streets for breaking an agreement of trust. Sure you can trust someone using the gray theory and this is what ya get:

Partially honest? So then, if you loan this person money you will might get part of it back - big maybe.

Frequently dishonest but I'll trust them anyways. After all, they do babysit my precious child.

Trust is something a person has the choice to exercise or not. The other person has a choice to be dishonest or honest.

I think it depends on who and what kind of experiences you've been through with them. Me and my bf have been together for a while and hes done some things in our relationship that now I can't trust him. Not even a little bit. I have a friend that I've had since kindergarten (i'm 22 now) and shes done nothing to me for me to lose any trust in her. I tell her EVERYTHING! and will continue to do so because I have complete trust in her. So I think that you can either completely trust someone or not trust them at all. Theres no middle when it comes to trust. Although if someone loses your trust I do believe that they can fully gain it all back within time.

Hope this helped!

If you are wondering whether to trust someone or not, the only question you need to ask yourself is: How often do they break their word?

Make mental notes whenever the person you are evaluating gives you their word by making a promise or a commitment:

If they almost never break their word they are trustable.

If they break their word about a few things but not about most things, trust them ONLY in the areas in which they keep their word.

Of they break their word only about 50% of the time, they are cons. Don't trust them at all.

Certainly. Trust is earned not freely given. Each thing a person does for you or to you either raises the level of trust or drops it. I would never give all my trust immediately to someone I just met for instance.

In business, if an employer tells you they are going to give you something and fails to follow through, they have not earned your trust.

Romance is the same as is every other aspect of our lives.

I think you can't trust anyone. I trusted my bestfriend, which is now a ex and she stabbed me in the back. I trusted a woman that claimed to be a christian and she stabbed me in the back. Maybe some people can find a true friend they can trust and that will be faithful, but I haven't seen one.
