ok the first time i got pregnant at 19 i had a miscarriage and then about a month later i got pregnant again, i had a lot of problems with my pregnancy and was put on bed rest for 10 weeks in the hospital and i still ended up having my son at 30 weeks. he was in NICU for three months. now i am pregnant again i am 21 i am 14 weeks and have an incompitent cervix which i am going in next week to have the cervical stitch put in (cerclage), also i was told that i have placenta previa which means that my placenta is completely covering my cervix, which is going to complicate the surgery but we are still doing it. i was told also that it might be wise to have a hysterectomy after this baby. my question is, since i have such hard pregnancies would it be wise to listen and have this hysterectomy or should i get a second opinion? i am only 21 i still have many years of being able to have children, and i love children i have always wanted 4 (not this young but it happens) what would you do???

i would get a second opinion and if the two doctors agreed that getting a hysterectomy was the best option then I'd do it. i wanted a large family too but my health comes first.

I would get a second opinion but yet still if they thought the same thing I would possibly hold off a few years if nothing was threatening. As long as your periods and reproductive organs were fine then I would definitely wait a while. You could be having problems due to your age. I am 23 and have an anterior placenta placement and I had a hard pregnancy with my first child and my doctors have not said anything about a hysterectomy. You may need to just give your body a good four or five years to heal from carrying children and you would probably be fine.

In the end you are the ultimate decision maker in this and if you are not comfortable making this life changing choice right now then wait until you are. Good Luck and hope you and baby are healthy and happy. God Bless.

Pesonally, I would get a second opinion. My friend went through a similar situation and ended up having a hysterectomy at age 26. The cerclage will prevent your cervix from opening prematurely and extend your pregnancy. As for the placenta previa, at 14 weeks this is not threatening yet. Many women who have placenta previa this early find that it will travel upward during the pregnancy making it safe to have a vaginal birth. Good luck to you and remember if you have any bleeding you need to go in and see the doctor right away!

For something as serious as this, I'd say get a second opinion. And you don't need to have a hysterectomy to prevent pregnancy. There are many birth control options like the IUD and such. But don't just go and have a hysterectomy yet. Get second, third, and fourth opinions if you need to, and look into other options.

I would get a second and maybe even a third opinion, definitely. Another doctor may find that you don't actually need a hysterectomy, so why go through all that if you don't have to.

Good luck!

I would get another opinion. The hysterectomy is not suggested because of cancer or uncontrolled bleeding, so it is not absolutely needed. Besides, getting a hysterectomy only to prevent pregnancy is not necessary...there are many reliable forms of birth control that do not involve a scalpel.

I would definitely get a second opinion. You are way too young to have a hysterectomy unless it is totally medically necessary. Good luck to you!

I completely trust my doctor. I had a miscarriage with my 1st pregnancy and a difficult 2nd one, but ended up with a perfect baby boy. I feel blessed to have just one child. If my doctor told me it was in my best interest to have a hysterectomy I would trust him, but if you dont feel comfortable with the answer get a 2nd opinion.

I would get a second opinion. Consult a maternal-fetal specialist and ask what the risks would be for you to get pregnant again. Best of luck.

Oooohhh! a tough one !! There's nothing wrong with getting a 2nd opinion !!! I wouldn't even consider it if I wanted more children, but think about all the complications you do have... It's something to think about !! Good Luck !
