Could anyone clarify, today and yesterday I got a pain like a contraction. The pain was awful and lasted say 2 minutes but was disabling for that two minutes. Im 26 weeks pregnant, is this normal?

somebody said later on walk around or have a glass of water. That would be impossible as the pain is cripling but only for the 2 minutes. Guess I better let the nurse know

Phone up the nurse and she has no idea of what it could be and told me to make a doctor's appointment will have to wait a week to go. So any advice would be great

If you have any pain anywhere that is debilitating, I would go to the ER and have it checked out. It's probably pregnancy-related, and may be nothing, but any pain that is so bad that you can't move is worth going to the ER. Also, it could be something that's not anything to do with the baby, like with your liver or kidney or something. One of my friends had her appendix burst (during labor) and it went undetected because they assumed it was labor pains too. She probably dismissed the warning signs of pain earlier in pregnancy, thinking they were baby-related. I also know a nurse whose gall-bladder problem went undetected until she was almost due to deliver, because she assumed it was baby pains! I'd just go to the ER, better safe than sorry, right?

I got braxton hicks contracts from about my 32nd week on. Braxton Hicks ususal start at about mid pregnancy but should not cause pain like you are having. When I had mine I could feel my stomache tighten and maybe a little bit of pain but not much. It could also be your tendons stretching. This causes a little bit sharper of a pain and would make you stop what you are doing. I did have some pretty sharp long lasting pains from the acutal muscles. It was usually because I bent a funny way or was sitting in a certain position. You should call your OB and ask to speak with a nurse and describe the pain. They might want you to come in.

You should not be having that amount of pain w/ Braxton Hicks contractions. They are not painful, especially at 26 weeks. The uterus will tighten briefly and relax, this prepares it for labor and delivery. If you are having severe pain this could be a more serious problem and needs to be addressed right away. Go to the ER if this happens again.

Most likely.

Braxton Hicks' contractions, also known as false labour (British English, false labor in American English) or practice contractions. Braxton Hicks are sporadic uterine contractions that actually start at about 6 weeks, although one may not feel them that early. Most women start feeling them during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. It is a tightening of the uterine muscles for one to two minutes and is thought to be an aid to the body in its preparation for birth. Not all expectant mothers have these contractions. They are thought to be part of the process of effacement, the thinning and dilation of the cervix.

In the days or weeks before labor, Braxton Hicks contractions may intermittently become rhythmic, relatively close together, and even painful, at times fooling you into thinking you're in labor. But unlike true labor, during this so-called "false labor" the contractions don't grow consistently longer, stronger, and closer together.

However, this is something you should be discussing with your doctor. I wouldn't take a chance.

This could be Braxton Hicks, but these contractions generally are not particulary painful. Pressure on the Sciatic nerve can sometimes cause pain, as can the pressure of the baby on pelvic ligaments and other organs that press against nerves and your spine. I doubt this is early labor, but you should make a call to your OB with the specific nature of your pain.

It's very early for braxton hicks though in fact you womb expands and contracts slightly throughout you life, it's just mostly you can't feel it. If I were you I'd pop down to the doctors and get checked over just to put your mind at rest. It could be nothing more than a pulled muscle or the baby resting on a nerve but better safe than sorry.

braxton hicks can be painful but at 26weeks i would phone the doctor just to make sure that's all it is. they shouldn't be painful enough to bother you and they should come and go in short bursts but everyone is different.
I'm 30weeks now but have to go to be checked at the hospital if mine last more than an hr or if they are painful.
be on the safe side and call your care provider for advice

no it is not normal at this stage in your pregnancy, you should consult a doctor or midwife if it happens again, braxton hicks contractions are painless, and you should not have awful pains at all

Braxon hicks. Theyre normal.

Right about this time, you'll get them a long with your round tendons stretching, that makes them REALLY painful.

You should lay down and drink a big glass of cool water with them at this point in your pregnancy. You dont want to have more than 6 in an hour. Laying down and drinking water will make them stop. If you have more than 6 call your doctor.

Later, once you break that 37 week mark, you'll want to try to walk around with them to encourage them to move the baby and dilate your cervix. But for now you want to rest and encourage them to stop.

They are normal.
