There is nothing wrong with marrying a country boy! In my personal opinion you will never find a better man. I don't understand how your mom could say they treat their wives like dirt unless of course you think having your husband open the door for you, take out the trash, and support his family is treating you like dirt. My husband is the typical "redneck" guy he hunts, fishes, drives a truck, listens to country music, and wants more then anything to live on a farm (we just don't have enough money yet). And I'm right their along with him we go huntin and fishin together all the time. I have never had a man treat me better.

One more thing don't date a guy just because he's a "redneck" there are bad country boys just like any other kind of guy. When you meet the person your supposed to be with you'll know it. And all that matter's is he treats you right. If you find yourself a good ol' country boy and he treats you the way he should then your mom should be happy for you.

A farmer and a redneck are two different things, and not all farmers have to be rednecks. Some farmers get degrees in agriculture and are not the rednecks your mother associates with farmers.

Having said that, though, there is probably a high-rate of "redneck" among farmers in general. "Redneck" is a mentality rather than a job, but a lot of people who like a rural lifestyle may be rednecks. Your mother is right that rednecks are not generally known as treating their wives all that well. What she could be wrong about is that there could be a farmer who is not a redneck at all.

These days there are women who build up a little money and decide to use some of it to buy a farm or one kind of another. If you like the idea of a farm why not do what you need to do to get a good education and job, save some money, and then use your money to buy the farm you want.

What you need to do is know how you'd like to live, meet someone you like, and then the two of you decide if you're compatible. Then the two of you figure out how you'll live and try to find a way to live that both of you like.

One final note: If you're young enough to still be talking to y our mother about what you want to do when you're older you're probably also young enough to be likely to change your mind a few times between now and the time you really get into starting a family.

Red necks as you call them could be anyone, farmer, lawyer etc. It's generally how they behave. You will know when you find the right guy. If you really want to marry a farmer, then you should spend time in smaller communities where there are many farmers. It might be a little more difficult to find one nowadays, since farming is changing so much that the farms are getting much larger, but there are fewer children staying to take over the farms. Farming is hard work. I grew up on a farm and love living on one, but I'm kind of happy that my husband is only involved with managing a pig barn, rather than dealing with the uncertainty of raising crops and being out at all hours of the night harvesting, planting and plowing! Good luck.

Red neck is a slang, derogatory (not nice word) for a farmer or a dumb/uneducated farmer. A farmer is just someone who makes a living from farming crops & raising livestock.

My husband & I were raised in the suburbs of Sacramento, not a total cowtown (though some say so)...My step-grandfather used to own a farm in Oregon (when he was alive) & I loved visiting every summer. Right now we live in the San Jose Bay Area... We are working very hard to save up... & one day we hope to save enough money to buy farm & move there.

The point of the story being: You don't have to marry a farmer, you can become one. And good farmers are very rarley uneducated. So find a good one! (When you are old enough!)

There is a difference between a farmer and a redneck. A farmer is just that, a farmer, and a redneck is like a hillbilly. Don't listen to your mom. I think that farmers treat their wives nicer than regular people do, because they have less possessions to care about, and more time to devote to their wives and children. Good for you for forging your own path! Not many people would want to live their adult life that way, but you do! Way to be unique!

Your mom is SOOOOO WRONG! Growing up my father was a doctor and my mother a teacher and they always wanted me to marry a lawyer or doctor and was sooooo pissed that I broke up with my one boyfriend that was in medical school. I met and married a WELDER who Iam PROUD to call a redneck- a good ol boy- and we have been happily married for 22 years now! My parents said they were going to throw MINUTE RICE at the wedding cuz thats how long it would last! WRONG! 22 years and still happy as all get out! He treats me like gold and Im spoiled rotten! We have plenty of money to live on! He may not have millions in the bank but he holds my heart in his hands and I will never love anyone other than him! I cannot imagine life without this sweet-gentle man. You cannot control who u love! This is YOUR life not theirs! A big family sounds wonderful darling! Hang on to your dreams and do what is right for you and marry the man who holds your heart in his hands! Good luck to u! A redneck and a good ol boy r basically the same. They call them red necks cuz they work outside all day and the sun tends to burn their neck! Thats how it started anyway!

Your mother is a very narrow-minded person. There are good and bad people of all races, ethnicities, religions, sexes, etc. Just because someone is a farmer doesn't mean they are a bad person. In fact, it means they understand discipline, priorities, and hard-work... all traits any mother should want her son-in-law to have.

When you get married, your husband will treat you how you allow him to. If you make it clear when you are dating that you expect to be treated with the respect that you deserve, then your husband will know that is who his wife-to-be is and he can either treat you with respect or find someone else.

The way that a man treats you while you are dating is a good indicator of the way he will treat you when you marry.
