That is called a hostile work environment. That is 100% abusive and completely unacceptable. Go online and google hostile work place. Know your rights and talk to someone in the human resources department of your company. Having said that, start looking for another job, just to be on the safe side. That way, if things go poorly with HR you may have a back up plan.

Unfortunately, I know how you feel. My boss at my last job was exactly the same and maybe worse. She would scream and yell, throw temper tantrums, talk bad about other employees, insult your intelligence and made the employees cry on more than one occasion. She was down right cruel. Let me tell you, it won't get better. Before you know it, you'll end up like I did. You'll be an angry person, have anxiety problems and be stressed all the time. It's just not worth it. Your mental health and well being is much more important. I, as well, could not just quit, so I spend three or four months looking for another job. I finally found one and life is so much better. I would suggest that you do the same. Look at it this way, the sooner you start looking for a new job, the sooner you'll find one and get away from your crazy boss.

1. Start making a resume and looking for opportunities elsewhere.

2. Craftily and quietly see how many co-workers are on your side without bad mouthing or giving up to them how you feel.

3. After you secure a new job, tell him after one of his childish outbursts that he should stop behaving in this way, and suggest anger management. Tell him that you should not have to work in such a "hostile work environment."

4. He will either change or fire you or you can quit. Should it get really ugly, talk to an attorney and give that attorney the names and numbers of all of the individuals that agreed with you. If the office has an HR or higher ups, report his behavior to them if you are concerned about him doing this to other people. If you are not concerned - just roll out and leave on a positive note saying that you just found another opportunity.

5. When you leave, take his favorite stapler or a pad of yellow stickies.

Put up with it and keep looking for a new job. Trust me, the thought of having your home will keep you going. I was in a similar situation, my ex-boss was not as bad as yours but I know how blue you are feeling right now. We had just bought our house and that was what kept me going. Just rise above it, learn some simple breathing exercises, which will get you through the days and hang on until another job comes along because you will feel a lot better than dumping the finances on your fiance. You will feel stronger for it when you finally get out of there. I will keep my fingers crossed for you! xx

My boss used to do that! I first started working for the company about ten months ago, and he always behaved like that.

One day I just yelled right back at him. He then looked really shocked and meanwhile, I just stood there so scared thinking "oh my God, I just yelled at the owner of the company, I'm soooo fired." Anyway, I don't really remember what he said in response, but he didn't yell and I didn't get into trouble either.

Since then, he never ever yelled at me again, and gradually he has stopped yelling altogether. Well occasionally he yells at his PA but that is because she really is stupid, not just because he likes yelling.

That said, you may not feel comfortable trying that, as I agree it's pretty drastic. I only did it because I didn't care that much whether I lost my job or not. And it might not necessarily work anyway.

Why not start looking for another job? It may take awhile but you don't need to quit your current job until you have another one lined up to go to.

This is a terrible situation that must be addressed. I actually work with somebody like that and he's the same way. Unfortunately, he's not going to change.. It's really sad to say that but he is the way he is. You may have to just deal with it if you decide to stay there or put him in his place. That's no way to treat other people and i agree with you. Maybe talk to somebody over him and see if you can get transferred to another dept..
GOOD LUCK

How big a company do you work at? Do you have an HR department you can speak to? If so do that. If not, and it really is effecting you, you might be better off looking for another job.

Oh, what an aweful boss. He sounds really dumb actually, like a stupid brat having a temper tantrums. And it's so wrong that he scares people. Maybe try looking at him as some kind of over sized spoilt kid, or an emotional cripple who does not know how to enjoy life and does not realize how immature and unattractive he looks to others.

Talk to HR, You shouldn't have to put up with *abuse* at work. Fair enough he's getting angry.

Maybe if he knew how scared you got when he screamed and shouted he might calm down. He can't sack you for that - and if he did you have a case of unfair dismissal.

Good luck sweet heart!

Start looking for another job, what else can u do?
I'd work at Mcdonalds before I'd let anyone treat me like that..I am sure there are some laws about abusive treatment from employers...
