I disagree with the answers you have received so far. It was Rome who ruled well over 50% of the known world at the time of the Roman Empire. Britain's "Empire" was scattered and never amounted to 50% of the world.

I don't think any empire came close to 50%, at least in population. I believe the largest population control was administered by some ancient Chinese and Indian empires.

I disagree with all of u but Alexander the great of Greece has captured 90% of the known world his empire stretched to INDIA too

Well, Britain did- sort of. To be honest, even at its height the empire had a fair few difficulties. Still, so do all empires.
